China Launches Carbon Dioxide Monitoring Satellite

Beijing (AFP) - China on Thursday launched a satellite to monitor carbon dioxide levels, state media said, making the Asian giant the third country to track the potent contributor to global warming from space.

The TanSat probe will allow China to keep a close eye on greenhouse gas emissions and give it a "louder voice" in future negotiations on carbon reduction, according to the official Xinhua news agency.

The technology will "trace the sources of greenhouse gases and help evaluate whether countries are fulfilling their commitments" to reduce pollutants under environmental pacts, it said.

China is a signatory to the Paris climate change agreement, the first universal action plan for curbing global warming.

The US and China are together responsible for some 40 percent of the world's emissions, so their participation in the agreement is crucial for its success.

Hopefully, this will be followed by a satellite global dataset satellite like the UAH and maybe some weather satellites. We're going to need china to lead.

Did they power the launch with windmills?

Are you under the impression that we will reach some point where nothing is allowed to be burned?

And even if we did reach that point, we are still in for some major changes from the GHGs that are already in the atmosphere. We will lose some major seaports before this century is out.

Your graph ends in 2012. From the intro of the same article:

Both coal production and consumption peaked in 2013 and has dropped continuously, falling a further 3.7% in the first 11 months of 2015 compared to the same period the year before.[3][4] Some analysts have concluded that China's coal consumption peaked for good in 2014.[5][6] On the other hand, an analyst for IHS Markit attributes the drop to a temporary slowdown in economic growth, and expects the decline in Chinese coal consumption to bottom out by 2018, then rise again before peaking in the mid-2020s.[7]

In early 2016 the building of new coal capacity continued at a significant pace with 406 GW proposed.[8] However, the central government issued directions in April 2016 curbing construction of new coal fired plants throughout the country.[9] This is in line with a moratorium issued by the National Energy Agency in 2015 banning new coal mines in China for a period of three years and closure of thousands of small coal mines.[10]

SO???????????

So your graphic gives a false impression. China is actively reducing their coal production and consumption.

I'm curious. Is that picture of the Bird's Nest Stadium in a horrific smog - is that a picture of an America - of a planet - with which you'd be satisfied? Or do you put that picture up not just to show us what China has done to themselves by ignoring pollution but to show us what we might do to ourselves if we do the same?

Which part of Hypocrisy don't you understand...........................

I'm saying China is a bunch of flaming Hypocrites on this issue................I'm also saying that for the massive expense in Solar Power is getting minimal results.............which is why I posted the 1% article.................

Until the cost versus gain equation is solved by Solar Power it is not a viable solution to a countries energy problems.............And the cost of electricity to countries going hog wild have hurt their people economically thru high utility costs..................
