1. When a pal asked ‘what would be solid evidence for evolution,’ I said, if I were making the argument, I’d be sure to include the fact that the chimp and the human have 99% identical DNA.

a. So, he sez “But how can you explain your "similar DNA" argument ?”

b. A great question, I sez. Great answer coming right up!

2. The polymath, Rene Descartes, early on pointed out the problem of a literal 6-day creation narrative, rather than geological evidence. He also “ continues to see the hand of God in the creation. In chapter six of ‘Le Monde,’ he states that at the first instant of creation, God provides the parts with different properties, and after that He does not intervene supernaturally to regulate same.” http://assets.cambridge.org/97805218/08972/sample/9780521808972ws.pdf

a. Every organism is equipped with ‘genetic information’ called DNA.

b. The mutation mechanism explains variation over time. Once “ God provides” said mechanism “He does not intervene supernaturally to regulate same.”

3. As for the 99% similarity between chimp and man….so what? Pretty much all plant and animals share a 100% similarity in having the same basic nucleic acids….DNA and RNA. This speaks to #2 above…” God provides the parts…”

a. DNA forms chromosomes prior to reproduction….Humans have 23 pair….Chimps have 24 pair…..See some sort of proof of evolution there? List of organisms by chromosome count - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

4. Now….one might suggest that the 99% gene similarity proves that Darwinian evolution….but:

In “Science,” 1975, M-C King and A.C. Wilson published an exhaustive paper estimating the degree of similarity between the human and the chimpanzee genome. This documented the degree of similarity between the two! Hence, we must be one with apes! But…in the second part of their thesis King and Wilson describe honestly the deficiencies of such an idea:

“ The molecular similarity between chimpanzees and humans is extraordinary because they differ far more than sibling species in anatomy and way of
life. Although humans and chimpanzees are rather similar in the structure of
the thorax and arms, they differ substantially not only in brain size but also in the anatomy of the pelvis, foot, and jaws, as well as in relative lengths of limbs and digits (38).
Humans and chimpanzees also differ significantly in many other anatomical respects, to the extent that nearly every bone in the body of a chimpanzee is readily distinguishable in shape or size from its human counterpart (38).
Associated with these anatomical differences there are, of course, major differences in posture (see cover picture), mode of locomotion, methods of procuring food, and means of communication. Because of these major differences in anatomy and way of life, biologists place the two species not just in separate genera but in separate families (39) . So it appears that molecular and organismal methods of evaluating the chimpanzee human difference yield quite different conclusions (40).”

So….the “99% similarity of genome”…..no biggie.

Pithy analysis!
Insightful!

...not to mention learned!

...as compared to your significant contributions to society: that amazing collection of painting-on-velvet of dogs playing poker.

You know why this is so cool? Because if you put even a little bit of animal or insect Genes in a Human then that person isn't really considered a human and doesn't really have any rights!

Isn't that great? Now we can do all kinds of experiments on them with no threat of Jail Time or Death Penalty!

Joseph Mengele would be so proud!

I was at the zoo about 5 years ago in St Louis. There was a shaved chimp. My first thought was it was a naked zoo keeper..

there is NO proof that god exsists.
There is No proof that God doesn't exist........

"God is Dead"
Nietzsche

"Nietzsche is Dead"
God

Written on the men's room wall at The Pub, an adult beverage establishment a short distance from the Unversity of San Francisco.

So, two propositions have been offered: 1) There is no God; and 2) There is no proof God does not exist.

What is a person to do, rely on faith or rely on reason?

Let's examine that obvious truth, shall we?

Richard Phillips Feynman (pron.: /ˈfaɪnmən/; May 11, 1918 – February 15, 1988)[2] was an American theoretical physicist known for his work in the path integral formulation of quantum mechanics, the theory of quantum electrodynamics, and the physics of the superfluidity of supercooled liquid helium, as well as in particle physics.

Now...I don't for a moment suggest that Dr. Feynman has the native intelligence that you evince....but he said something that bears upon your statement:

"Today we cannot see whether Schrodinger's equation contains frogs, musical composers, or morality," Richard Feynman remarked in his lectures on turbulence. The remark has been widely quoted. lt is honest.
The words that follow, however, are rarely quoted:
"We cannot say whether something beyond it like God is needed, or not. And so we can all hold strong opinions either way."

I know you are now stroking your chin and murmuring 'hmmmmmm....'

Some things fall into the category of immediate recognition; we immediately understand their meaning and their significance.

Other things appear to fall into that category.....but do not.

"Reason" belongs to the second group.

You use it in the above post as though you understand same, and everyone else does as well.

You've given me an idea....and I'll consider explaining the danger of using 'reason' in an OP in the near future.

If you're a good boy.

In the mean time....continue collection of those dog paintings.

Is this pretty much a way if saying "God could have created the universe and set everything in motion evolving and changing"?

Throw in the phrase "11 billion years ago" and I think we agree!

So according to the above, everything in the Bible that does in fact reference intervention by God is wrong?

Chic, old gal, science is the study of our physical world, using physical evidences and observations. It really has no referance frame for a Diety or lack thereof. Your constant attempts to square your favorite mythology with science is clear evidence you have not the slightest idea of how science works.

"science is the study of our physical world, using physical evidences and observations."

Exactly the reason that environmentalism is eliminated from contention as a science.

Environmental science is a science. Environmentalism is a philosophy, or an ideology.
