I would never defend a pedophile, what I am saying I believe most of this is made up from one layer who made lots of money off a class action lawsuit. I also doubt the legitimacy of SNAP. If someone says they were sexually molested by anyone they need to tell their parents or go to the police , not the church, school or any private or public organization and then a full investigation should be made.

There was a HS teacher here who a girl accused him of sexually molesting him and went into court and in the end she admitted she made it up. The teacher said he will never teach again and moved away. Ruined his life.

Now if a Priest puts his arm around the shoulders a altar boy or any boy, I do not think that is sexual abuse. SNAP, the woman who started it, was abused by a RC Priests who was defrocked when she told about it, and she is still a RC and involved in RC charities.

I'm not saying that the odd diocese were late catching caught on, but the USCCB has been pressuring all dioceses to get with the new program--which has been in play for a generation now. As I said earlier, that represents a generation of Catholic work. Pedophiles in many diocese--including one in my diocese--are being punished--criminally. There will be no new places or new victims.

Jewish school ordered to pay $1m to student sexually abused by runaway principal

An ultra-orthodox Jewish school has been ordered to pay more than $1 million to a former student who was sexually abused by a runaway principal.

The windfall is believed to be the single biggest payout to a Victorian victim of child sexual abuse in a landmark case that could open the floodgates for waves of similar litigation.

And in a damning Supreme Court judgment handed down today, the school has been slammed for actively trying to cover up the abuse.

The former Adass Israel School student sued the college over claims she was routinely molested by former principal Malka Leifer.

The woman said she had been abused in Ms Leifer’s office, at her home and on school camps, and she believed that other teachers had known about the abuse.

“She would tell me that she loved me and that she really cared for me. She would tell me it was her way of telling me she loved me,” she said.

After allegations about Ms Leifer’s abuse were made public in 2008, the college board helped her flee to Israel just hours later under the cover of night.

Jewish community after 85 arrested

• 117 alleged victims spoke out from tight-knit religious society
• An Orthodox Jewish community has had to face up to claims of child sex abuse after 83 men and two women were arrested.

An initiative was set up to encourage victims to come forward despite pressure from the close-knit religious society to hush up the crimes.

Some 117 male and female victims have approached authorities in Brooklyn, New York since 2006. There were 89 accusers under the age of 17.

However 24 alleged paedophiles were not jailed. In some instances, the case against them collapsed when victims and their families backed out of giving evidence in court following pressure from the religious community, according to the assistant DA.

Authorities have another 47 cases pending.

The Orthodox Jewish organisation Agudath Israel of America, which has its headquarters in Manhattan, rules that anyone who claims to have been sexually abused by another Jew must consult rabbis first.

Only then is the decision made whether to go to secular authorities.

As it happens, I live near a "retreat" where pedo priests take a little vacation, get told not to do that anymore and then are sent to their next post. Many are now being hidden in South America.

Let's look at your statistic of "many."

There are about 414,300 priests in the United States. One hundred nine have been publicly accused (not convicted) of sexual abuse. Thirty-eight are serving jail time. Four, (is four many?) were relocated to South America. I understand these are not the perfect statistics some might like, but it appears nine times as many priests went to prison as went to South America. I do not know the case histories of those who got moved, but statistics alone bear out the truth that pedophile priests are not routinely being re-routed to South America. Nine times as many are being re-routed to prison.
