Can Biden win reelection solely by being the ‘alternative’?

1 May 2023 ~~ By Douglas E. Schoen

After months of speculation, President Joe Biden announced this week that he will seek reelection in 2024, setting the stage for a likely rematch against Former President Donald Trump, who at this point is favored to win the Republican nomination.
To be sure, Biden would benefit from facing his 2020 foe. It allows Democrats to turn the race into a referendum on Trump and his brand of far-right “MAGA extremism,” rather than a referendum on Biden’s presidency — or to paraphrase one of the president’s favorite sayings, a campaign that is focused on comparing Biden to the “alternative,” not “the Almighty.”
Based on Biden’s announcement video, which was released exactly four years after he launched his 2020 bid, this will be the basis of his strategy. The president declares that the “fight for our democracy” is incomplete and urges Americans that “this is not a time to be complacent,” as “MAGA extremists” are threatening bedrock freedoms and civil liberties.

A post-2020 election report by Equis Research and subsequent analyses have suggested the rightward shift of Latino voters is due largely to economic policy. The economy has been a notorious rough spot for Biden during his first term, and he must find a way during the campaign to bridge the fundamental disconnect between the historically strong macroeconomic trends he often touts — i.e., historically low unemployment — with voters’ negative feelings about the economy.
Ultimately, as the country gears up for the first presidential rematch since President Dwight D. Eisenhower’s second victory over Adlai Stevenson in 1956, I would urge the Biden campaign not to rely solely on an “alternative not Almighty” strategy. Because given the alternative, the Democratic Party can’t leave anything to chance in 2024.

Commentary:
Biden's win in 2024 would be the second theft of America's presidential election in less than a decade.
Meanwhile the author Doug Schoen pontifies and opinionates through Maoist Democrat Leftist colored lenses.
Of course, Schoen fails to consider the National Security and Foreign Policy disasters of Afghanistan that Biden created and that doesn't include the war in the Ukraine, double digit Inflation, Supply Chain issues to include baby formula shortages.
How can any sane logical American vote to re-elect a president that as failed in every manner except spend taxpayers' money like drunken sailor and claim he's doing a great job?
What the hell else can Joe run on, his record? He can’t run on making America poorer. Biden can say anything he wants but his lies only make him look more delusional and demented. In two more years this country will be 10X worse then it is today. I’m being optimistic with that number.
Will we see te 2024 election of votes counted exceed the number of people eligible to vote, and when pointing that out will be deemed insurrection. That problem would be eventually rectified by barring wrong-thinking candidates from running for office.

Well, being the alternative got him elected, and Trump and the GQP haven't exactly changed their behaviors. They've only amplified them. They've not net gained in followers because they're too focused on acting like children and keeping their base angry and motivated.

Biden is and was a spectacularly mediocre candidate. In a normal time, he'd clearly be too old for the position. The Dems are definitely not attractive. Some people like Biden's record, even if Trumpsters predictably do not. But the far bigger motivating factor will be what has happened to the GQP. The Dems, I suspect, are fine with that.

Trump can certainly win. But either way, the electorate is again facing two horrible choices.

Just like the DNC.

I'd say that Trump has gained support. He has certainly lost few of his 74 million while gaining some that are disappointed in Biden, meanwhile, no one wants Biden. More and more hate him by the day. While Trump and the GOP have lots of time to improve their message, Biden is slipping by the day with no one liking him and most of those voting for him only voting for him because they hate Trump so much which the DNC and media are sure to keep stoking.

Do you know Biden was just at a function the other day with some big group there to be honored and in the middle of the ceremony, Joe just wandered away? And before that, Joe could not remember he just spent the week in Ireland? A child reminded him.

TPUSA just had a rally of hundreds MAGA conservatives who like the Kennedy guy better than many in the GOP. Good thing they refuse to allow democrats any choice because put up against most anyone (but Kammy Harris), JOE WOULD LOSE in his own party.

Meanwhile, the legal ratchet keeps tightening against Joe, Hunter and the other 7 Bidens, and now the Ark judge is demanding detailed records of where Hunter gets all his money as congress investigates Joe's chinese banking records. And I suspect that things will be getting just worse here the next year, inflation, energy, crime and war.

By the time we get to Nov. '24, voters may be ready for Trump, or even a dead cat, than to give that putz Biden another four years.

No. i think if it's between Biden and Trump, Trump will win. if it's between someone else and Trump, that someone else will win. if it's between Biden and someone else, that someone else will win. We need to turn out to vote to make sure Donald Trump does not become president again, whether it is a new Democrat or a new Republican candidate.

How can he be deemed the alternative when he is the guy in the WH? Europe is quickly disappearing East and away from the U.S. They turned away from Canadas Police State long ago.
