Blame Oil Speculators, Not Obama, For Rising Oil Prices

Yes. The economy is strengthening.

So the economy took a sharp V recovery turn from down to up on the first trading day of 2012???

ch.gaschart

No.

So then was that sudden sharp & continuous rise in the price of gas at the pump due to the expiration of the Ethanol Tax Cut or the closing of the OCS?

Speculators do not make the conditions, they react to them. Simple as that. This is Obama's disaster and it is going to get worse.

He's trying to say he didn't say no to that pipeline.. he's out singing again.. poor old thing.

Please tell us how that "pipeline" would impact the "current" situation.

Boring excuse.... reminds of the Anwar excuses....yawn

Democrats.. do nothing (raise taxes, yes) and blame someone else ....yawn..yawn..

Blame Oil Speculators, Not Obama, For Rising Oil Prices

Blame Governments, Not Speculators for High Oil Price

So now we know where our current Bankster Puppet-in-Chief Obama got the idea for blaming higher oil prices on "Wall Street speculators." Forty years ago, the then Bankster Puppet-in-Chief Nixon blamed the instability of the dollar on "international money speculators." Of course, we all know who the real evil Wall Street/internationalists are who have created higher prices by devaluing the U.S. dollar over the last 100 years by flooding the U.S. market with worthless pieces of paper which they have the monopoly on for offering into the marketplace."

But there’s little truth to claims that Obama has curbed U.S. oil production and driven up gas prices in the process. As NPR noted this morning, the number of drilling rigs in U.S. oil fields has quadrupled under Obama and domestic oil production hit an 8-year high in 2011. For the first time in 60 years, the U.S. is now a net fuel exporter.

Oil demand was actually down 4.6 percent last week over last year, while the supply of gasoline has actually increased slightly since a year ago. So why are gas prices so high? As McClatchy’s Kevin Hall explains today, there is a systemic problem: speculation.

Energy futures markets serve a legitimate role in helping producers (like oil companies) and big end users (like airlines) hedge against price volatility, but lately, they’ve been taken over by Wall Street speculators who never intend to actually use the fuel they’re betting on. As Hall reports:

Historically, financial speculators accounted for about 30 percent of oil trading in commodity markets, while producers and end users made up about 70 percent. Today it’s almost the reverse.

A McClatchy review of the latest Commitment of Traders report from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, which regulates oil trading, shows that producers and merchants made up just 36 percent of all contracts traded in the week ending Feb. 14 while speculators who will never take delivery of the oil made up 64 percent.

Okay, fine, let's just park our brains and blame Obama for everything. There, that should work...

You Democrats are still blaming Bush...yawn..yawn..yawn...

Btw.. not just Obama, I wouldn't want to leave out Democrat leadership...their pathetic do nothings and whiners also..

Obama didn't invade sovereign countries based on lies and misinformation - like both Bushes did. How's that work for ya?

No.. Obama just drops bombs where others tell him to without any consideration for what the outcome will look like.

Were all the speculators on the long side?
Were all their trades opening only?

Day to day trading as it pertains to the broad economy is noise. The fundamental strength of the economy is improving. We are hearing it from the companies themselves. That may not last, but that has been the case for the past several months.

Bush was doing fine until the Democrats took over Congress and waisted all their time investigating and undermining instead of working for the American people...

Speculators play a part certainly.. Right now their betting Obama/Democrats are going to screw up oil production worse than they already have.

Can you please explain that a little further? Who did the investigating, what did they investigate, and why did they investigate? Pelosi said impeachment was off the table. Maybe you're thinking of President Clinton...

Bullshit. Speculators do not exist to drive prices upward only.
But for Obama's anti fossil fuel agenda, commodity speculators would not be bidding up futures prices. Iran's stupidity notwithstanding.
You people are not going to get away with criticizing the previous admin for high gas prices while giving Obama a hall pass.
This WILL BE a campaign issue. Obama will not be able to dodge the gas price issue.

What.. you missed it..? There wouldn't have been such a housing bubble burst without Democrat inaction..

Dare to do a little research on your own before throwing out some of these unfounded comments in regards to Bush...mm-kay..

You don't extinguish fires with numerous jerry cans of gasoline.

Gas prices rose dramatically while George W. Bush was in the White House and the GOP controlled all three branches of government (after they complained that gas prices were too high under Clinton/Gore and promised to lower them), dropped significantly during the Bush/Cheney recession, and are now, because of the recovery, returning to the previous trend.

It would be helpful if some reporter would ask these Republicans spouting this nonsense what they were saying while gas prices went through the roof under President Arbusto and Vice President Halliburton. But there’s also something absurd about Republicans demanding that the government do something about gas prices.

Wouldn’t that be interfering with the free market?
