Donald Trump is losing the trade war as the trade balance widens ~12% in March and it will be even higher in April.

So Donald Trump did not win anything in the Middle East, is losing the Covid19 'war', and is not losing but has lost the trade war.

Dopey Donald Trump will probably be blaming Obama as his Dopey Donald Trump presidency crashes and burns in the economic ruins of the USA and takes the GOP lawmakers with him.

The impact of declines in aircraft sales and in sales of war machines will further depress American manufacturing and jobs.

Global pandemic causes tourism and travel to collapse

The numbers: The U.S. trade deficit widened by almost 12% in March as the coronavirus pandemic grounded international flights, froze the global tourism industry and caused massive disruptions in the exchange of goods such as new cars and iPhones.

Imports fell 6.2%, but U.S. exports tumbled an even deeper 9.6% to cause the trade gap to rise. It’s the biggest monthly decline in exports ever recorded.

The U.S. deficit rose to $44.4 billion in March from $39.8 billion in February, the government said Tuesday. Economists polled by MarketWatch had forecast a $44.2 billion shortfall. ...

It’s fine for us to have an overall trade deficit. All it means is we import more than we export.

China Trade Balance April 2020

China: Exports rebound in April
May 7, 2020

In April, exports expanded 3.5% over the same month in the previous year, contrasting the 6.6% drop in March. The print also contrasted the 15.7% drop that market analysts had expected.

Meanwhile, imports plummeted 14.2% in annual terms in April. The print followed the 1.0% contraction in March and exceeded the 11.2% drop that market analysts had projected.

As a result of the sharp drop in imports, the trade surplus jumped from USD 13.0 billion in April 2019 to USD 45.3 billion in April 2020 (March 2020: USD 19.9 billion surplus). The 12-month moving sum of the trade surplus rose from USD 362 billion in March to USD 394 billion in April.

The unexpected rebound in exports mostly reflected surging shipments of medical goods as the country is becoming the global hub for healthcare equipment in the wake of the Covid-19 outbreak. China’s electronic exports also fared well in April due to increased demand of electronic appliances, including computers, monitors and home console.

Our panelists forecast that exports will contract 9.1% in 2020 and imports will drop 5.8%, bringing the trade surplus to USD 315 billion. In 2021, FocusEconomics panelists expect exports will expand 6.8%, while imports will rise 6.6%, leaving the trade surplus at USD 340 billion.

Yes, China still enjoyed good exports, thanks to having a monopoly on medical supplies.
Why? Because the US refused to use tariffs to keep medical manufacturing here in the US. That is losing a trade war. Decades of incompetence and corrupt politicians like the Clintons, Bushes, el Hussein, and Quid Pro Joe who sold out America so they could cash in personally.

The important thing is, from your own article by the way:

“So far this year the trade gap with China is 35% lower compared with a year ago.”

So the trade gap with other countries is >35% higher? It is apparent Dopey Donald Trump is incompetent and is losing the trade war.
you are a pretty incompetent poster....how are you any different?....

You are my best customer.
you say that because you cant counter what i say about you....its hard for you to disprove you are a dipshit....

Manufacturing has not returned
Give it time

I repeat, you cant repair 30 years of bad trade policy in 3 years

Manufacturing is moving out of china

that hurts their economy which slows down their quest to rule the world

The US$ is overpriced due to bad economic management which allows unrestrained capital inflow which causes the US$ to rise relative to other currencies.
Wrong

US manufacturing costs more because we cannot pay our workers slave wages but china does

American companies have to meet environmental standards and china does not
