Canada, eh!
In three years, Paul Burrell gambled away nearly $500,000 of his life-savings at Casino Nova Scotia.
...
Day after day, week after week, between January 2000 and February 2003, he sat in front of the slot machines at the casino, where the staff let him keep on playing and losing, even though it was clear he was addicted.
...
Burrell's banking machine receipts show he gambled away a $200,000 worker's compensation settlement, family savings of $80,000 and roughly $200,000 from his remortgaged house and personal loans.

"I was in a situation where this destroyed me," Burrell said in an interview. "I didn't like what I had become. I only started coming back into myself when I realized this wasn't all my fault."
...
Burrell has threatened to the sue the provincial government in a bid to force it to be more aggressive in spotting gambling addicts within casinos.

There's another thing we can thank lawyers for. :bang3:
We'll see. Maybe the reason he is only "threatening" to sue is because every lawyer has laughed him out of their office? Come on, miracles could happen! :)

It's not limited to Canada. We have casinos less than 45 minutes from here and there are stories at least once every few months of someone losing everything and trying to blame the casino. Either they didn't recognize the addiction or they kept giving away free liquor which dulled the gambler's senses to know they were gambling too much.

Of course, not walking into the casino in the first placel isn't an option.

Wasn't all his fault? What.. Someone car-jacked his ass, tied him up, dragged him into the casino, and tied his ass to the stool, withdrew his cash, put it into the machine, crazy-glued his hand to the lever, and then set up a pulley system where it would automatically force his arm to pull down every 5 seconds?

Well, then yes.. I can see where it wouldn't be his fault.

Or.. Maybe he thought he had to stay there, because there's no "Cash Out" button?

yeah its amazing the excuses addicts can come up with. always placing the blame on everyone and everything else besides where it needs to be.

Hey, now.. My scenario is entirely possible...

...in the land of make-believe...

"Honest officer, it isn't my fault I ran ove than guy 6 times. I was possessed!" :dev2:

...and you're going to sue the car manufacturer for selling it to you, right? After all, they should know you have the potential to become possessed at any given (and random) moment.

Too bad for the police, they become adept at people 'hearing' from all sorts of critters. (I think it's called psychotic). One of my funniest stories from the phone company I worked at first out of college, was believe it or not, a HR person that was convinced there were 'people' listening into her conversations with Ma Bell-no others, just us.

Went on for months, then she became convinced that the monitors were going to kill her. I was her 'representative.' I offered to call the police, if she wanted. She did, so I did. They went out to the company. She explained her problem.

The officer called me, told 'us' that this was a 'secure' line and anyone trying to be involved in it would be thrown in jail, without any trial. He suggested that the 'monitor' would be better served, with less threat to survival if he went to the gas company. That ended the problems, well at least for me. For some reason, she was replaced a couple months later...
