Blackface, Virginia and the sound of shattering glass houses

Neil Young was right about the Southern Man.
LBJ, Bobby Byrd
Let’s not forget Georgia’s favorite dimocrat, Richard B. Russell, arch racist who fought LBJ at every turn during the civil rights battles, and for whom the Senate Office Bldg. in Washington is named, as well as a federal courthouse in Atlanta, and various bridges, roads, parks, etc., etc.

Thomas K. Norment Jr., the powerful Republican majority leader in the Virginia Senate, was a top editor of a 1968 college yearbook that included several photographs of students in blackface as well as racist slurs.

Mr. Norment, 72, a longtime fixture and political broker in the State Legislature, is the first Republican to be swept up in Virginia’s ongoing political crisis over racist behavior in the past. The Virginian-Pilot newspaper first reported on the photos and material on Thursday.

Carlton: A Republican in blackface? Not a good image

Florida's new secretary of state resigned last week when photos of him dressed as a female Katrina victim in blackface surfaced.

Here is the thing...lots of glass houses in the south right now. Does it matter? Should it matter?

In my opinion, what a person did in high school or college should not generally be what defines them forever. If their career has been otherwise commendable, they haven’t gone on to promote racist memes or activities...why should they resign? Shouldn’t the whole picture be considered? If they otherwise acted bad,y, a public apology for the stupidity and insensitivity of youth should be enough.

And hopefully those schools are no longer promoting such things.p
Democrats can't find enough racism today in America......they've found a way of attacking people for things they did 20,30,40 years ago.....when racism actually existed.
This is fascism....not racism.
Now the oppressed have become the oppressors.
This is HOPE & CHANGE.

THe point in attacking the VIr Governor, is that it is DEMS that pretend that black face is this huge crime, and THEY are the ones living in glass houses.

1968? Jesus Christ? You're going back to 1968?

I am seeing Dems calling for resignation of the Dem governor. So what are you talking about?

That dems/libs pretty that black face is such a terrible crime, and now we see that so many of them have done it too.

That's what the "glass house" saying is all about.

Republicans are not the ones who invented this latest hysteria, so this is not on them. So, "glass houses" does not apply.

I mean, seriously. Dude.

Back in the day, Slavery wasn't outlawed, but was in the works on being outlawed. If it wasn't for the Southern Whites and their plantations, the slaves would of been freed in the late 1700's but because of the war against England, the pact was to keep slavery for the south, until the United States was free from the king. It really isnt hard to understand history, it just takes some reading to learn it, but I know most of you dumbass liberals, just dont want to take the time to learn how your whole life as been one big lie.

Sooooooo, which Party had a KKK Grand Kleagle as the "Conscience of the Senate", refused to shake Jesse Owens hand, appointed a Klansman to SCOTUS, ran around in blackface and promised to have them....well yeah it's the democrats
You mean Byrd? You tardy love to go on about that. Completely ignoring how the man changed. You make a perfect example of my point.

Byrd changed? He was gleefully saying “ni&&$r” in the Senate In the 2000s and daring Democrats to do something about it. They did not. Byrd did not change. He simply learned how to play Democrats so they would leave him alone.

It is somewhat humorous to see Dems killed by their own identity politics sword. Remember, Kavanaugh was guilty with zero proof. Ah.....good times until the worm twists your way.

I am from Virginia. So is my family. I have never seen anyone dressed in blackface in my life. Trust me, no sane person thought blackface was okay in Virginia in the 1980's. Those Dem assholes were racist back then, and they probably still racist today.

Coyote, I have no sympathy. They are an embarrassment and need to go. And I would say that regardless of their political affiliation.
This post is the poster child of irony. You have a poster named "Welfare Queen" with a stereotypical avatar giving a lecture on how non-racist he is and condemning others for racism.

Seriously this has to be the dumbass post of the decade.

I'd rather see people taking a serious look at what to do about the fact that so many of our black men end up in prison. Blackface forty or more years ago is kind of a nonsense issue, tbh, when there are real problems to deal with in the here and now.

You Leftards are hilarious in your desperate attempt to justify his racist actions. He already admitted to it, shitforbrains.

Slavery was in the works of being outlawed just about every place but HERE! The slavocracy had intentions of spreading slavery into the new states along with Mexico, the West Indies and Central America and you`re intention is to spread bullshit conservative fairy tales.

Liberals are a mess. This new green deal, blackface, baby killing, sexual assaults, 90% tax rates, pretend injuns...sheesh what happened to them?

Turns out liberals, who never leave an offensive rock unturned, are themselves under all those rocks.

In order to destroy Donald Trump, the media and Democrats instituted the "zero tolerance" policy for sexual assault, believe all women, and racism. In absence of all that, they try to see it in anything he says or does. Although he's not angel when it comes to his personal life, there is no proof he engaged in any sexual misconduct, there is no proof of him being racist...

That "zero tolerance" policy, that torpedo they fired at Trump suddenly turned around and came back at them. The same media, along with the Hollywood were gutted by the #MeToo movement. And now that Virginia, one of the crucial swing states for the next year election was hit by the same "policy"... two blackface cases and one sexual assault, all of the sudden we have media trying to hit the brakes and change the narrative.

Anyone notice that it's not "blackface" anymore, they call it "dark make up". The "zero tolerance" policy is gone, and things that are objectively racist are being downplayed to try to protect Democrats. That women who claimed being sexually assaulted have been thrown under the bus, WaPo rejected to print her story, Senators Feinstein, Booker, Harris, that were so vocal in their attacks on Kavanaugh, are nowhere to be found.
Didn’t the Pubs have a zero tolerance policy towards Clinton when it came to sex? Women must be believed? Why yes. They did.

That was just a taste of your own medicine.

Media and Clinton machine were addressing Trumps private life, marriages, affairs, and it suddenly hit them back so hard that even today you can hear them squealing. It's over two years of trying to proof Trump is guilty of something, and they still can't point to the crime. Beside, Clinton wasn't impeached by the Congress for screwing the intern, but for the lies he told.

Meanwhile...despite millions of dollars spent on partisan investigations...you still can’t finf Hillary Clinton guilty of any crime.

Under our system of Law the evidence found against Clinton should have gone to a Grand Jury. However, a corrupt Loretta Lynch, DOJ, and Comey prevented the evidence form going to a Grand Jury as it has under the various investigations of Trump.

A crucial difference....no?
No. Not really.

Any indictments of Lynch or Comey? Or just opinion?

Did the investigation of the Trump foundation go to a grand jury?
