Bill to remove Pot from Federal regulation sponsored in House

This only has 6 sponsors so far, and hasn't even been taken up in committee, but it's a start. Lets see if it even sees the light of day.

Cosponsors - H.R.1227 - 115th Congress (2017-2018): Ending Federal Marijuana Prohibition Act of 2017

The crux of the text as it amends the Controlled Substances Act of 1970

Prohibition On Certain Shipping Or Transportation.—This Act shall not apply to marihuana, except that it shall be unlawful only to ship or transport, in any manner or by any means whatsoever, marihuana, from one State, territory, or district of the United States, or place noncontiguous to but subject to the jurisdiction thereof, into any other State, territory, or district of the United States, or place noncontiguous to but subject to the jurisdiction thereof, or from any foreign country into any State, territory, or district of the United States, or place noncontiguous to but subject to the jurisdiction thereof, when such marihuana is intended, by any person interested therein, to be received, possessed, sold, or in any manner used, either in the original package or otherwise, in violation of any law of such State, territory, or district of the United States, or place noncontiguous to but subject to the jurisdiction thereof.

So basically Pot would get the Alcohol treatment. States can regulate it, and all the feds do is punish people who try to bring it into places where it is locally banned.
Just throw in another round of tax cuts for the rich and it's sure to pass...

Ugh, trite political hack attempt.

You are usually better than this.
The GOP way to legislate is "in", it's very "in"..

Only 6 sponsors and hasn't been taken up in committee but pipe dreamers say "it's a start". Be advised that President Trump doesn't smoke or drink so y'all pot heads might as well table your fantasy for at least four years and most likely 8 years.
10 years ago how many states had it legal as compared to now?......how about medical pot to now?.....the fantasy may be you thinking it will stop....
Medical pot?
Let it go through the FDA testing for drugs then.

But it never has, because everyone knows it fails.
It never has, because it hasn't been allowed to. It has proven efficacy for many ailments, and has been used by various cultures for thousands of years.
More lies. No one has prevented studies on use.
But if you wish to claim every nation on earth prevents studies on use, that only validates the point there are too many negatives with this drug.

Link away.

And why has no one funded a study in any nation on earth?

Because there are too many negative with this drug and they know it could never pass FDA requirements.

There have been several studies in the UK and Europe, since their govt's don't force them to follow blindly..

As there have been studies in the US.
Which shows heavy usage causes severe mental health issues.

That is why the components in weed that are advantages are found in pill form and are FDA approved.

But weed is pushed because people just want to get high.

its schedule 1,that makes it harder to obtain for research
Why It's So Hard For Scientists To Study Medical Marijuana
Feds limit research on marijuana for medical use
Marijuana research will remain restricted with DEA decision

Almost every major research facility has a DEA license, and EVERY drug being tested for FDA approval must obtain preapproval first.

I spent years in the pharmaceutical industry, new drugs takes years and millions of dollars to submit for FDA approval, and after all that they may decline simply because they have a wild hair up their ass.

But with pot being such a public issue, all that is needed is to do the studies and make it public when they hand the results to the FDA.

But you know what the FDA will say? Can cause severe mental illness with extensive use and the components that are beneficial in weed are found in pill form.

THAT is why no one funds a study.

Just watch some of the documentaries they made about it. It'll make you crazy, for sure.

So basically Pot would get the Alcohol treatment. States can regulate it, and all the feds do is punish people who try to bring it into places where it is locally banned.
Anyone stupid enough to smoke anything should be allowed to do so, with state regulation.

The Fed's do not need to be involved in this other than at the interstate transportation level like any other normal crime.

In the studies that Weaterman is touting as saying it causes schizophrenia? Well, yes, in some cases it can, but those are only in the cases where kids started using it at a young age. And, because the nervous system and the brain aren't completely formed until age 18 or 20, you shouldn't use it before you turn 21, just like drinking. And yeah, in cases where kids started drinking at an early age, mental problems have occurred from the use of alcohol as well.

As far as doing any testing? Well, because marijuana was put on Schedule I, which is the class of drugs that are considered to be highly addictive with zero medical benefits, Schedule I drugs aren't allowed to be researched for benefits, just the bad things. And, because of all the research on marijuana that has been done over the past couple of decades, marijuana has been PROVEN to be medically beneficial, as well as has been proven to not be physically addictive, which means it should be moved off of Schedule I.

And, if you want to know what the true gateway drug is, it's alcohol and not marijuana. Why? Because alcohol can and will reduce your inhibitions, meaning that you are more likely to do something drunk that you would never do sober, and we have all heard or told stories along those lines.

Marijuana on the other hand may make you laugh, and give you a bit of an uplifted feeling, but stuff you wouldn't do sober, you won't do stoned, because most of your inhibitions are still intact.

Like I said, I worked for years in the pharmaceutical industry. You just regurgitate bullshit and swallow it without thought.

Not the right people. Pot originally became illegal because William Randolph Hearst made big bucks off of selling wood pulp for newsprint. He didn't like the fact that pot grows much faster than trees and the useful fiber could easily be made into paper too. So the BS Reefer Madness started with resultant hysteria and the illegality which remains to this day.

Nixon once had a study on pot. When the results came back showing no lasting harm, he had the study shelved. It actually surprises me that you put so much stock into government studies for pot, but dismiss them out of hand when it comes to global warming. After all, according to the right, the government wants studies that have predetermined outcomes.

Hope it dies. No thanks. I have STUPIDLY smoked once and drove and I barely remember it and I am shocked I managed to make the 20 plus mile trip without being pulled over or wrecking....

You got Hearst right, but forgot 2 others............Dupont who was just coming up with new chemicals and didn't want the competition from hemp oil, and a soon to be unemployed DEA agent named Anslinger who hated black and brown people. Because Anslinger was DEA, and didn't like Blacks or Mexicans, because they were the largest consumers of marijuana, and he was DEA, he got Hearst and Dupont to back him, and he went to Hollyweird and made Reefer Madness.

Fact it y'all..............marijuana was made illegal because of racism and greed.
