Self-avowed Socialist Bernie Sanders has been drawing surprisingly large crowds at his rallies. Yet he has offered nothing but the usual tired "I'll fight for you, tax the rich, and give you goodies" mantra the leftists always come up with.

What can be behind his inexplicable popularity?

Could it be that it is not so much that he is popular, but that the Left cannot find anyone else to rally around?

The leftists are understandably tired and distrustful of anyone named Clinton, after decades of their promises followed by failure, diversion, and lies. It would not be surprising if they are starting to look elsewhere... and there is no "elsewhere" except Bernie.

Bernie Sanders isn't offering anything the other leftist fanatics aren't also offering, just phrasing it slightly differently, while presenting a face most of them haven't seen before.

With the sad state of the Democrat party today, that might be all someone needs to get ahead. If their big-govt-dependent voters can look at a candidate and say, "Well, at least THIS one hasn't gotten caught in a bunch of lies and let us down yet", maybe that can fill some auditoriums.

When your ship is sinking behind you and you are swimming frantically away, ANYTHING that still floats can look pretty good to you.

I don't know, maybe this has something to do with it.

NO, Bernie has some popularity with the progressives in the democratic party. Note, Hillary has not slipped among democrats since late July, so it is progressives that know Sandes coming out to see him

You will have to wait after the debate to see Hillary begin a collapse, if she collapses.

Haven't heard "anybody but Hillary" anywhere but from right wingers. She scares you to death, doesn't she?

Bernie is poular because he has always said this shit. He has never wavered in his belief in the Big State to solve problems. As such he has integrity and consistency. He has not been mired in any scandals. People respect someone who has principles and stands by them. That is his total appeal. A nd of course the free shit.

Yes, he does. That's the good news.

The bad news is, he's fundamentally wrong. The Big Government he demands, can't fix much of anything. On the contrary, it messes up far more than it fixes.

Not true, Clinton is offering a lot less.

Like her recent attempt to suck up to voters by offering a watered down version of Bernie Sander's free education promise, though I suppose you want Clinton's version - which is an ACA for the Education sector (meaning the hardest hit won't really get a cent).

Here's what he said a few months back: Make Public Higher Ed Tuition Free - Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont
Monday, April 13, 2015

In a Monday evening appearance at American University in Washington, D.C., Sen. Bernie Sanders called for making 4-year public colleges tuition-free, allowing students to refinance loans, eliminating federal profits on loans, expanding work-study programs and providing incentives for colleges and universities to keep costs down.

The senator also called for expanding Pell Grants to help more students afford college through a program targeted for steep cuts by Republican budget makers in Congress. Sanders also said student loan programs must be overhauled to reduce crushing debt loads which now exceed American’s credit card debt.

Well for one thing, sanders speaks out against the unconstitutional tpp, which most all republicans, and way too many democrats, are for. I think the so called liberal media has a blackout about it because it's hardly mentioned anywhere. It was the last straw for me thinking obama was a half decent guy, and hillary is afraid to mention it of course, since her big donors probably told her "hands off the tpp".

Oh his polices are proven failures. They will drive this country to utter bankruptcy and ruin. No question there. But what I wrote accounts for his popularity.

There is nothing unconstitutional about it.
Hillary came out against it, despite having worked on it as SecState and supported it.
Bernie has been consistently against free trade, which brings jobs to the US. Bernie is against average workers.

It looks to me like Democrats are flocking to Bernie Sanders mostly because they have nowhere else to go.

Hillary is so repugnant wither constant lies, evasions, and stonewalling, that they would even vote for a has-been socialist loser like Sanders rather than put up with four more years of Hillary.

I think "free" education is a good investment.

College graduates make more money, pay more taxes, and contribute to the general health of our economy.

Those who don't make little or no money, do not pay taxes, and are likely to be on public assistance. They are a burden on our economy.

How can we expect to stay on top of the global economy if we view education as an extra cost option?
