What is the point of hiding the plus/minus directions in the battery case of every gadget needing AA's or AAA's?? Is this an industry-wide game where they all delight in knowing we'll need to try positioning those little suckers at least once before we get it right because we can't SEE the itsy-bitsy guide usually located deep within a dark space?

Throughout my life, there have been things that defy any reasonable explanation. And I've added that to my list of things to ask God (or the superior on the Mother Ship) since nobody seems to know. We just do it, no questions asked.

Sometimes it requires both. However, you both are missing the point. WHY would I even need to put on glasses or use a magnifying glass? WHY WHY WHY???!!! Can't they just stamp the goddamned legend where it's easily seen?

 We understand. The reason is probably that it's made in China and to make it easier to see would cost an extra $0.000000000001 per unit.

Except it's always been that way, going way back to when China was only making chopsticks.
