Baltimore Surpasses 100 Homicide Victims
May 27, 2016 -- Three people were shot and killed in separate incidents Wednesday night, pushing Baltimore past 100 homicide victims for the year.
The killings occurred in the city's Eastern, Western, and Southwestern police districts. Baltimore homicides are down from this time last year, when killings surged starting in late April, but ahead of the pace of previous years. Among the recent victims was Kevon Gant, 29, who last July was the stepfather of a Baltimore boy who at age 8 became the world's first recipient of a pediatric double-hand transplant. Gant was gunned down Monday night in Northwest Baltimore, police said. Police said the medical examiner's office has ruled that two other recent deaths are homicides, including the scalding death of a 2-month-old girl in Brooklyn.

Wednesday's first homicide occurred about 5:50 p.m. in the 1200 block of N. Carey St., when an officer heard shots and searched the area. The 22-year-old man died later at an area hospital. His name has not been released pending notification of kin. About 8 p.m., Christopher Jackson, 24, of the 1900 block of Riggs Ave. was found wounded in the 400 block of Forrest St. at Old Town Mall. He died at an area hospital. At 9:15 p.m., police found 29-year-old Stanley Ricardo Short in the 2400 block of Frederick Ave., near West Side Shopping Center, suffering from gunshot wounds to his body and head. Short, of the 100 block of Catherine St., was initially listed in grave condition and later died at a hospital.

Police released no suspect descriptions or motives, but asked anyone with information to call homicide detectives at 410-396-2100 or Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7LOCKUP. The death of Elisha Lynn Watson, whose parents said was scalded accidentally during a bath, was ruled a homicide by the medical examiner's office. Elisha, who was born March 29, died May 4 after suffering burns over 80 percent of her body at the family home in the 500 block of E. Patapsco Ave. Police said no charges have been filed in the case.
