Congress is looking to make a lot of space between themselves an the great white dope with 2018 right around the corner

Trumpā€™s fellow Republicans in Congress are showing signs of going their own way, both on politics and policy, determined to salvage what they can of their agenda on healthcare and tax reform in the wake of one of the most difficult weeks of any American presidency.

At the same time, Trump's failure to fill senior roles at federal agencies means he does not have a cadre of loyalists who can help rein in a bureaucracy that many in Trumpā€™s orbit believe are out to leak information intended to damage the president. That has worsened the isolation of the White House in a city that relies on friends and allies to shake off a crisis.

Fox host: No Republicans 'willing to go on camera' after Comey memo
By Joe Concha - 05/16/17 09:24 PM EDT

Fox News host Bret Baier shared Tuesday that there weren't "any Republicans willing to go on camera" in the wake of a New York Times story that reported President Trump had asked former FBI Director James Comey to end an investigation of former national security adviser Michael Flynn.

According to the Times report, Comey wrote in a memo that Trump said, "I hope you can let this go,ā€ and ā€œI hope you can see your way clear to letting this go, to letting Flynn go. He is a good guy. I hope you can let this go.ā€

The bombshell resulted in a guest booking challenge for Fox on the Republican side of the aisle.

ā€œWeā€™ve tried tonight to get Republicans to come out and talk to us, and there are not Republicans willing to go on camera tonight as of yet, and we'll see if that changes," said Baier, host of "Special Report."

Regular panelist Charles Krauthammer found it "stunning" that Republicans wouldn't defend the president.
"What I think is really stunning is that nobody, not even from the White House, has come out under their own name in defense of the president here," Krauthammer said.

ā€œWe donā€™t see any Republicans on camera,ā€ he continued. ā€œAnd that is totally understandable. Theyā€™ve just watched over the last 10 days, people who went out on a limb on the Comey firing, and said it was the result of the memo from the deputy attorney general, and had their limb sawed off by Donald Trump himself without a flinch."

ā€œSo who is going to step out now and defend the president in these denials?ā€ Krauthammer asked.

The panel portion of "Special Report" usually runs during the final 25 minutes of the program but was featured for the full hour to discuss the breaking news around the Comey memo.
