- Despite Increase in Global Child Protection Laws Many Countries Still Do Not Consider Child Pornography A Crime

"DESPITE INCREASE IN GLOBAL CHILD PROTECTION LAWS
MANY COUNTRIES STILL DO NOT CONSIDER
CHILD PORNOGRAPHY A CRIME

Artist Jeff Koons and the International Centre for Missing & Exploited Children Say Much More Needs to be Done to Protect Children

ALEXANDRIA, VA --- 26 March 2013.During the past seven years, 100 countries have enacted new laws to protect children from child pornography. However, according to the International Centre for Missing & Exploited Children (ICMEC), 53 countries still have no law and do not consider child pornography a crime.

...

These 53 countries currently have no law on child pornography:

Afghanistan, Algeria, Angola, Antigua and Barbuda, Bahrain, Benin, Burkina Faso, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Congo, Cote d'Ivoire, Dominica, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gabon, Ghana, Grenada, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Guyana, Haiti, Iran, Iraq, Kiribati, Kuwait, Lebanon, Lesotho, Libya, Maldives, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Mozambique, Namibia, Nauru, Niger, North Korea, Pakistan, Palau, St. Lucia, Samoa, Sao Tome and Principe, Solomon Islands, Somalia, Swaziland, Syria, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Tuvalu, Uzbekistan, Yemen, and Zimbabwe."

Wondering about rape statistics in a country where foreign travellers describe "sexual imagery as ubiquitos" I find a side-by-side comparison for Japan v USA

Japan vs United States Crime Stats Compared

" Violent crime > Rapes
Japan 1,289 Ranked 18th.

USA 84,767 Ranked 1st. 66 times more than Japan"

Japan and the USA have similar populations, within maybe 10 million of each other. And yet Japan is smaller than California. You'd think people crammed so tightly together would be at each other's throats. Yet with fewer police (about a third less than USA, they have far less crime including sexual crimes despite (until recently) next to no significant censorship.)

Why did you have an interest to look this up?

Thats rhetorical.

Instead of breaking the rules, how about addressing the op? Serious issues require serious discussion. If you just wanna screw around go to a 'just screw around' group.

That's reported rapes. I would not expect many reported rapes in Japan.

Japanese 2010 Census says 128,057,352
The U.S. 2010 Census says 308,745,538

So the U.S. has 2.4 times the Japanese population.

Their culture is vastly different and their policing techniques.......well....they don't usually even prosecute without a confession.

Just looked up population, you're right. Who the heck am I thinking of? :)

No one it seems. No one's close in pop to us. Trying to remember when the last time I was reading about Japan and USA similarities and be darned if I can recall. Getting old (sigh.) :)

No, saw that getting accurate stats but haven't read anything about Inodnesia I don't think ever. :)

Guessing I read about a similarity between us and Japan, and mixed up facts merging them.

Guys - take the trolling crap to the FZ if you can't discuss the topic.

data regarding both crime and health are reported to international bodies by the countries themselves----there is no real reason to trust them
