Are we nearing an actual war with China?

China isn't even capable of invading Taiwan....how could they invade the US?

If war breaks out, China will take Taiwan in Blitzkrieg.

Any war between the US and CHina will not last long, presuming that PotUS decides to wage the war to win.

We can project power upon them; they cannot project power upon us. Thus, we can eliminate their abillity to make war; the reverse is not true.

Best of all, we can do it w/o putting any significant force on their soil.

If war breaks out, China will destroy everything in its proximity which you need to use as logistics base to project the needed power to defeat China.
Yeah, 'War will not last long against China', probably because you are so liquid in cash and th Chinese aren't.

Guam in reach of Chinese missiles | Pacific Daily News | guampdn.com

Thomas Mahnken, professor at the U.S. Naval War College in Rhode Island
"The assumption that U.S. bases in Guam, Japan and elsewhere will be secure from attack is in question. The (Chinese military) is fielding ballistic and cruise missile systems and a number of other capabilities designed to destroy most key facilities,"
(...)
The Chinese, he testified, are working night and day to develop "programs to degrade or destroy the U.S. command, control and communications abilities, as well as American intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance and the navigational systems that are critical for U.S. military operations."

If USA and China ever get to War, world will divide into 2 blocks like in Cold-War.
Money buys allies and China has a shitload of it. And there are a lot of countries in the world who are uncomfortable with the long invalidated power-system (WW2 outcome) the world is currently ruled with.

The US can destroy China's economy with little more than land-attack and anti-shipping cruise missiles. China has no way to protect itself across the whole of its vulnerability from a US Navy and USAF that is wielded with the intention and the commitment to win.

Power grid. Dams. Seaports. Rail junctions. Communications.

Conversely, aside from using nukes, China has no way to do the same to us.

Top Chinese General: China Will Never Challenge US Military
May 18, 2011 - A top Chinese military officer says China never intends to challenge the United States military.
General Chen Bingde, chief of staff of China's People's Liberation Army, told an audience of U.S. military officers in Washington Wednesday that there is a huge gap between the Chinese and the United States. He says China does not have the capability to challenge the United States. Later at the Pentagon, Chen told reporters that American weapons sales to Taiwan would affect Chinese-U.S. relations. He said how bad the impact would be depends on the types of weapons sold.

Chen calls the U.S. law requiring weapons sales to Taiwan an interference in Chinese domestic affairs. The head of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff Mike Mullen, says he and Chen spent most of their talks trying to understand each other's views. He said the United States and China cannot wait until there is a crisis to understand each other. Mullen said he looks forward to visiting China in the near future.

China temporarily cut-off military contacts with the United States last year after Washington announced $6.4 billion in arms sales to Taiwan. Congress is also considering approval of F-16 fighter jet sales to Taiwan. Mullen said the United States supports a one-China policy and wants peaceful reunification of Taiwan and the Chinese mainland. But he said the Obama adminsitration must follow the law.

Taiwan split from mainland China in 1949 after the communists seized power from the nationalists. China has threatened to use force against the island if it formally declares independence.

Chinese to view sensitive U.S. military sites
Tuesday, May 17, 2011 - Lawmaker sees law violation
China’s top military leader and a group of officers are set to visit sensitive U.S. military bases this week, in exchanges that defense and congressional officials say run counter to a 2000 law designed to limit such exchanges from bolstering Beijing’s arms buildup. Chinese Gen. Chen Bingde, the military chief of staff, arrived in Washington on Monday for the first high-level military exchange since Beijing cut off military ties early last year to protest U.S. arms sales to Taiwan.

One source of concern, according to defense officials, is Gen. Chen’s planned visit to Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada, where the military conducts regular combat exercises, including one with cyberwarfare elements known as “Red Flag.” Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, California Republican and chairman of the House Foreign Affairs subcommittee on investigations, said visits like those by Gen. Chen violate the limits set by Congress in a 2000 defense authorization law when they involve advanced U.S. weapons or military activities.

“We should not open to Chinese generals and admirals major military bases like the Norfolk Naval Station, the Army National Training Center, and Nellis Air Force Base, where our famous Red Flag air and cyberwarfare exercises are held,” Mr. Rohrabacher said. “The People’s Republic is not an allied, or even a friendly country, and should not be given this kind of privileged access.” The 24-member delegation includes eight admirals and generals, and four senior colonels.

Joint Staff spokesman Navy Capt. John Kirby said in a statement that the visit was reviewed for security and policy issues by all U.S. government agencies and departments involved in the visit. “The delegation is not stopping at any location that has not been appropriately cleared for this visit,” he said. In another sign of thawing military ties, the visit coincides with a joint performance Tuesday night by the U.S. Army Band and People’s Liberation Army military band at Fort Myer in Virginia.

The real "war" is economic - and America's enemies are internal.

Chinese Professor

What's funny about that video, is that China has it's own massive "stimulus" package. And it's working. And all their insurance is "government run" and is probably the cheapest in the world.

BEIJING - China will encourage villagers to seek timely outpatient healthcare through an adjustment to the New Rural Cooperative Medical Care System (NCMS), a medical insurance scheme for villagers.

China tweaks rural health insurance system

Minister of National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) Zhang Ping has made public the breakdown of China's four-trillion-yuan stimulus plan, which will cover livelihood improvements, R&D, environmental protection and other sectors.

NDRC reveals details of stimulus package

Isn't that hilarious. If Republicans had their way, insurance companies would bankrupt the middle class worse than they already are and instead of building America's infrastructure, we would BE Afghanistan.

It's HILARIOUS!
If you like the way the Chicoms do things, then by all means move there. No one is stopping you (and personally I wouldn't miss you) so please, just go, and don't let the door hit your liberal arse on the way out!

It's a liberal thing; they just can't , try as they may, see a communist government as an enemy; it looks too much like them.:D

Never happen. Ironically the closest we were ever to engaging in a war with China was when the mentally deranged commander of US Troops in Korea was relieved of duty after recommending that the US Nuke China. Bill Clinton sold technology to China allegedly for satelite research against the recommendations of US intelligence through a big contributor to his campaign, Loral, and China jumped twenty years in ICBM missile technology. Today, thanks to the fool we elected president and decades of democrat party policies, oil producer China owns a substantial part of the US economy.

Only democrat policy?

If you are a prime example of what America has to offer we should just surrender now.

When China finds out we won't be able to repay all the money the US owes them, they will probably invade our country. We won't be able to fight back unless they lend us some money to buy ammo.

LOL. Hell no they won't invade, they will foreclose. You might remember it was St. Ronnie that transformed us from a lender nation to a debtor nation.

Do us a favor on the forum (US) citizen. Stop that annoying apology after a single inane comment. Say what you want to say. Personally I hope that my opinion is the best America has to offer. If we stick with Obama and democrat party policies about oil production we have already surrendered to China. It seems like the radical libs today have become the new socialist nationalists.

Well judging from that reply I guess we ight as well surrender. We would not last long without fancy cell phones and such anyway.

The French tried that to Mexico, now Americans have one more day to drink on Cinco de Mayo!

China might have the million man army, but ask how good helpful million man army was for them when the invaded Vietnam, shortly after we left. They invaded in '79 with half a million men. In one month the Chinese ran back over the border with 30K dead Chinese soldier left behind.

China can't match our military in any way shape or form. They may have a larger population and army, but that would be a tough advantage to capitalize on due to the fact it would be tough for them onto our shores!
