Are lap dances a human right?

Did anyone ever stop to think that stuff like eating would be more important to those on welfare than going out clubbing? It's pretty expensive to go to a strip club (used to work in one), and 1 beer would cost them the equivalent of a meal (beer at the club I worked was around 4 bucks and the mixed drinks were even more expensive).

And.......as far as liquor/convenience store combos? Up around Amarillo Blvd (poor section of town) ATM's are pretty hard to come by outside of those places.

Him: Honey!! We're out of milk, cigarettes and OJ, I'm going to run down to the ATM at the local strip club.

Her: The grocery store takes credit cards, Dear. Why do you need to go to the strip club?

him: You sound like a Republican, Honey.

Sorry but that money should not be available as cash.

Those cards should only be used for an exchange of goods; you know food or clothing for the kids not booze and strippers.
You can't pay your rent with a debit card.

No they pay their rent with section 8 vouchers.

Again that money does not need to be available as cash.

That is only if they can get on section 8. The waiting list is huge and can take many years to get on it. Section 8 may or may not cover the entire rent. The tenant is often required to pay a portion.

I don't think TANF payments should be used to pay for strippers either but if this bill were to pass, just how much money would the government save? A few dollars? I would think enforcing this bill would cost more than it would actually save.

From what I can gather, the TANF payment is direct-deposited into the bank account of the recipient. When you withdraw money from an ATM machine not owned by your bank, the fees are ridiculously high. Poor people aren't going to spend precious extra dollars just to withdraw money from their account at a non-bank ATM machine if they can possibly help it.

I think this bill is much ado about nothing. It's time the lawmakers in Congress came up with REAL economic solutions instead of staging a witchhunt on the poor.

I read the article. it doesn't say there's any problem. it indicates that people use ATM's at liquor stores a lot. That's true. Because there aren't necessarily banks in bad neighborhoods and the only ATM's are generally at convenience stores and liquor stores.

It's a dog whistle bill. The base will like it because it feeds into their whole welfare queen meme.

someone needs to tell them most people on welfare are white.

The race card?

Sounds exactly like Jillian and her race baiting crap. Anything you say that she does not agree with and suddenly, you're a racist!

As the recession continues onward, House Republicans are worried that those receiving welfare payments may be having a bit too good of a time.

The chamber will again vote Wednesday on a bill which would ensure that electronic withdrawals of Temporary Assistance for Needy Families dollars aren't allowed to be withdrawn from ATMs at strip clubs, casinos or liquor stores. TANF replaced national welfare programs after the welfare reforms of 1996.

Welfare money should not be spent in strip clubs and give UA test.

This is what your EBT card will get you.

The House bill would give states two years to implement new rules. States that fail to comply could be hit with a 5 percent reduction in their block grant.

Boustany’s office cited reports of welfare abuses in eight states, totaling millions of dollars. His legislation would not reduce spending directly, but would restrict how taxpayer funds can be used.

In one well-publicized example, the Los Angeles Times reported in 2010 that California welfare recipients were able to withdraw cash from their state-issued debit cards at more than half of the casinos in the state.

“We have an obligation to make sure taxpayer dollars are spent appropriately,” Boustany said.

The last time I had a lap dance, I could hardly walk for days. That girl's high heels just killed my groin.

Yeah, that's a good question. It should be some type of credit system that allows them to buy necessities.

it saves the states money.

Instead of mailing out stamps monthly, they mail you an ATM card once and then put money on it electrically.

also, in theory, it was supposed to prevent fraud. As people would sell the stamps for cash and then by things that were not allowed.

The "fraud" stopped, but then people bought whatever they wanted.

Hazah for gubmit effecientcy.

People are still running scams with the EBT card bro.

Yeah, but that's different.

somehow it's just better this way.

CA banned it in 2010. Apparently, not a "small problem".

Reporting from Sacramento — Nearly 200 ATMs in casinos and strip clubs have been removed from the network that allows access to California welfare benefits, and the ban may be extended to bingo halls, racetracks, gun stores and massage parlors, state officials said Friday.

The announcement follows Times reports that millions of dollars have been withdrawn from welfare accounts at gambling establishments and adult clubs with debit cards issued to people on state aid.

The cash, meant to help the needy feed and clothe their families, was dispensed at casinos and poker rooms at a rate of more than $227,000 per month between October and May, state officials have acknowledged.

Doesn't sound like they included liquor stores, and it was still a huge amount.

People stealing from their own children. Reprehensible.

Not this Republican. But fraud and waste of taxpayer money esp. in this economy does. Have you seen the debt clock?

It amazes me how people will defend it.

The path to hell is paved with good intentions.

You know what is worse than this? The fact that JP Morgan rakes in billions as more people go on food stamps since they have the contract to issue these cards. Then to throw salt on the wound, they outsource some of the customer jobs to India.
Making Money On Poverty: JP Morgan Makes Bigger Profits When The Number Of Americans On Food Stamps Goes Up

To me this is the much bigger and immoral problem.

Where does the article say anything about race?
