Front-page headline in USA Today: Blacks die in police chases at higher rates than others.
This article focuses on bystanders who are killed during police chases. Whose fault is this? The police or the fleeing suspects? Twice as many Black motorists try to flee police as do White motorists (40% vs. 20% of total stops).
When their relative shares of the population are taken into account, Black motorists are more than 10 times more likely to cause police pursuits. Is it any wonder that more Blacks are injured or killed as a result?
Isn't it time for the African-American community to stand up and start holding its miscreants responsible for the carnage they create? Or has blaming everything on "institutional" racism become too comforting to abandon?
