Anyone here a tile guy?

So I’m looking at my fire place with the best half and she said she wants tile on it. Is it possible to just float over the brick with cement and then lay the tile. Or would it be better to hang hardi backer and then do the tile. My concurn with that is that the screws won’t anchor in the brick and the weight of the tile and backer board will pull it all off.

Clean the brick really good, heavy on the tile mastic and that should do it.

I noticed in the first video he claimed to use thin set instead of mastic........ I wonder why.

Yup, I found the stuff, it doing tile sucks ass AND balls. But it makes mama happy, soooo.
