Another Trump Failure: Coal Mining Jobs Are Not Coming Back

Why was Obama so determined to destroy an industry that was dead anyway? Good Allah you 'tards can't reason.

Now the MARKET gets to decide, not the Demonrat Party!

Don't look dead to me

Nearly half of US coal is produced by companies that have declared bankruptcy — and Trump won’t fix that

When Peabody Energy, the biggest coal producer in the US, declared bankruptcy in April, it joined a long list of coal compatriots in the chapter 11 club.

Arch Coal, the country’s second biggest producer, filed for bankruptcy in January, and Alpha Natural Resources, the fourth biggest, sought chapter 11 protection in August 2015 (it emerged from bankruptcy in July 2016).

But that doesn’t mean the companies stopped mining or producing the fuel. In fact, approximately 44% of US coal now comes from companies that have declared bankruptcy sometime in the last four years. Those are troubling stats for President-elect Donald Trump, who campaigned on the promise of bringing the country’s declining coal industry back to life.

Even with the orange clown running things, coal is on life support and fading fast.

Peabody and Arch are exiting bankruptcy.

It appears you didn't read what coal's top dog said. That is very, very apparent.
And then there's:
Why the U.S. Coal Industry and Its Jobs Are Not Coming Back
Ever try living in reality, instead of your daily talking points?

What talking points? Like I was born last night and not in 1965?

Like I am not aware of the 30 plus year war on coal.... The left took a cheap product and tried to destroy it by forcing it to be overpriced through laws and regulations...

That's the facts

.
The facts are that mining coal is vastly destructive to the environment, burning is create a lot of pollution even when use the stack cleaners. The residue, fly ash, has poisoned several rivers. We have better and cheaper ways of creating our power without burning coal. Time to ban the mining and use of coal in the US. And I was born in '43 and have seen the environmental degradation from the mining of coal, and it's use.

The wheels of coal are starting to turn. Mines that obama shuttered are open and starting to hire.
Coal miners projected to go back to work

DETAILS: Some Miners Are Going Back to Work in Coal Country
So coal hires back a few dozen miners. Big whoopee. In the meantime;

Solar-energy jobs are growing 12 times as fast as the US economy

If you're looking to switch careers, you may want to listen to the wind.

A new report says wind turbine technician is the fastest-growing profession in the US.

The growth in wind power is just one example of the rising employment numbers associated with the clean energy and sustainability sector. According to the report, published by the Environmental Defense Fund's Climate Corps program, the industry now has at least 4 million jobs, up from 3.4 million in 2011.

The report estimates that solar and wind jobs are growing at a rate 12 times as fast as the rest of the US economy and suggests that 46% of large firms have hired additional workers to address issues of sustainability over the past two years.

As Trump vowed to resurrect the coal industry and mining jobs in remarks at the Environmental Protection Agency, he promised to increase production of the resource that experts say is killing them. “We will unlock job producing natural gas, oil and shale energy. We will produce American coal to power American industry.”

The IEEFA disagreed. “Promises to create more coal jobs will not be kept — indeed the industry will continue to cut payrolls,” the group said in its 2017 U.S. Coal Outlook. “These losses will be related in part to the coal industry’s long-term business model of producing more coal with fewer workers.”

The industry has a fundamental problem it has not addressed even as businesses fail, the IEEFA said: “Too many companies are still mining too much coal for too few customers.”

Trump promised to bring back coal jobs. That promise ‘will not be kept,’ experts say.

Americans need to be freed from coal mines and given opportunities in training programs to prepare for the jobs of the 21st Century, not attempt to resuscitate a dying industry of the 18th Century.

It is putting people back to work. Training is too late for some. We need to encourage education and not abandon viable employment while people can still get paychecks. The market will take care of coal.
But its not though. Didnt you read what the people in the industry are saying?

Yup we live in a world of instantaneous gratification... From threads of trump is worse president ever to jobs not coming back to coal mine jobs coming back

Newsflash trumps only been president for 3 months, the war on coal is over 30 years old... It takes time to change course and recover from the damage liberals has caused the business sector..

Damage liberals have done? You silly ass, the GOP nearly put the nation in the Second Great Republican Depression in 2008. When President Obama took over, unemployment was more than 10% and the Market was dropping to a low of 6500. When President Obama passed the baton to the orange clown, the market was right at 20,000, and unemployment at 4.7%.

Not a failure moron...he did his end of the deal...he is repealing obama's attack on coal miners.....if coal mining jobs can come back they will...because Trump isn't going to attack the industry....

No.....that was all on obama......and the democrats and the attack on housing...forcing banks to make bad loans.....through the community redevelopment act.....and blocking all attempts at fixing the problem..which the democrats did.....at every step....

Yup, must be why welfare participation increased by 42% under Obama and home ownership has dropped to it's lowest level in the last 25 years. Guess all those "shovel ready" jobs don't pay too much. But hey, keep smiling as you greet those guests as they walk into your Wal-Mart.

The coal miners weren't stupid and knew to be cautious about any optimism on the return of coal. What I think they appreciated most from Trump was that glimmer of hope and some respect in comparison to the callousness delivered by Hillary.

Hey....she was honest...she told them she was going to put them out of work...but she promised them a long life on welfare......that is an even trade......right?

There are six million jobs going begging in the US right now. Jobs like millwrights, electricians, and automation. That is a lot more people needed than there are miners. So what is wrong with the dumb jerks? Are they going to forever sit around the cabin door and just wait for someone to hand them a job?

You hypocritical right wing idiots are lying to them when you promise a return of coal mining jobs, and you know it. There have been no new coal generators built for a while, and some states have flat outlawed them. What is the orange clown going to do about that? A tweet storm?

No new coal plants

No new coal plants

2009 Victory - Environment Oregon helped pass a greenhouse gas emissions standard for new electricity facilities - essentially preventing construction of new coal plants and adoption of long-term coal contracts. The move will reduce Oregon's global warming pollution by more than 14 million metric tons. Now all three West Coast states have adopted the No New Coal Standard.

China Cancels 103 Coal Plants, Mindful of Smog and Wasted Capacity

China is canceling plans to build more than 100 coal-fired power plants, seeking to rein in runaway, wasteful investment in the sector while moving the country away from one of the dirtiest forms of electricity generation, the government announced in a directive made public this week.

The announcement, made by China’s National Energy Administration, cancels 103 projects that were planned or under construction, eliminating 120 gigawatts of future coal-fired capacity. That includes dozens of projects in 13 provinces, mostly in China’s coal-rich north and west, on which construction had already begun. Those projects alone would have had a combined output of 54 gigawatts, more than the entire coal-fired capacity of Germany, according to figures compiled by Greenpeace.

The cancellations make it likelier that China will meet its goal of limiting its total coal-fired power generation capacity to 1,100 gigawatts by 2020. That huge figure, three times the total coal-fired capacity in the United States, is far more than China needs. Its coal plants now run at about half of capacity, and new sources of power, like wind, solar and nuclear, are coming online at a fast clip.

India to halt building new coal plants in 2022 | Climate Home - climate change news

India needs no extra coal power stations until at least 2027, according to the government’s latest draft National Electricity Plan.4

The plan, released by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) for public consultation, makes no room for further generation capacity beyond the 50GW coal fleet that is under construction.

The plan covers two five-year periods beginning in 2017 and 2022. The first period allows for the completion of those plants already being built. But after that, the CEA is planning for zero new thermal power generation before 2027.

“As coal based capacity of 50,025MW [50GW] is already under construction which is likely to yield benefits during 2017-22, this coal based capacity would fulfil the capacity requirement for the years 2022-27,” the plan said.

At the same time, the report aims to add 100GW of solar and wind. These renewable energy additions would more than double India’s clean energy capacity.

Looks like a whole bunch of people are deciding that coal is a loser.

Given what it costs our health care system, should be $12 a pack. But, by all means, go ahead and smoke a couple of packs a day. When you expire at 62, there will be more money in the SS pot for the rest of us. LOL

Thats the same thing I keep telling people about Africa. Europeans colonized it for centuries and fucked it up. They have only been free about 50 years. Drumpf doesnt have that much time so he wont do much if anything.
Islam colonized Africa first. The Europeans did not have much to work with.
Islam is a religion not a race. Most people in Africa never have been Islamic. Make no mistake about it whites screwed it up.

What a racist comment. Someone is part of the problem here. Shame on you.
Racist? Whats racist about pointing out how whites fucked up Africa?

The word "RACIST" is the favorite word of habitual liars.

With Trump in office, coal mining town begins making comeback

Hazard, Kentucky is one of those small coal-mining towns with one main road snaking through the hollow. Both sides of the road are lined with a handful of retail stores and restaurants. The windows on about half of those stores are now covered with newspaper. The signs out front say, “closed.”

That’s what happens in a one-industry town when the president turns against that industry. Carla Hall at tiny Feltner’s Barbershop, right on the main road, knows that too well.

"My business went down tremendously,” she said.

Like Carla, everyone in town, from the insurance salesman to the waitress at the coffee shop, is ultimately connected to money that comes out of the mine.

“When they start getting laid off, they stretch out the haircuts,” she said.

However, there is a new sense of optimism in coal country and that is linked to a new president who, from the campaign trail, frequently bellowed: “We are going to put our miners back to work.”

Natural gas and renewables are kicking the shit out of coal. Capitalism in action.
The point is that Pesident Trump has given coal an even playing field. Some fucking president, who used his black race as a club during his failed presidency, isn't going to choose winners and losers.

I consider this as a win. And we are going to keep on winning.

just another inefficiency. we should be phasing out fossil fuels in favor of renewables.

Labor can always go on unemployment compensation that either clears our poverty guidelines or that is one dollar an hour less than the current statutory minimum wage; until capitalists get a "capital ethic" with their capital gains preference, and hire Labor.

In the mean time, Labor can still go to school or continue their education until the "head hunters" show up with an offer of a bonus.

The amount that coal prices increase depends on projections for coal demand and coal mining productivity.
