Another Jackass Congressman

U.S. Rep. Steve Southerland told retirees Wednesday that serving in Congress is a great honor and privilege, but not cushy job with lavish insurance and pension benefits that many disgruntled taxpayers seem to think it is.

He said his $174,000 salary is not so much, considering the hours a member of the House puts in, and that he had to sever ties with his family business in Panama City. Southerland also said there are no instant pensions or free health insurance, as some of his constituents often ask him about in Congress.

"And by the way, did I mention? They're shooting at us. There is law-enforcement security in this room right now, and why is that?" Southerland told about 125 people in an auditorium at the Westminster Oaks retirement community. "If you think this job pays too much, with those kinds of risks and cutting me off from my family business, I'll just tell you: This job don't mean that much to me. I had a good life in Panama City."

If the job doesn't mean that much to you take a walk, dude.

Damn. Did Palin put crosshairs on him too?

You, apparently have it mastered though. Kudos!

This guy is saying he's risking his life and underpaid while we have men and women REALLY risking their lives overseas and making peanuts.

I don't hold a candle to him.

funny! when Gabby Giffords was shot you people were all about providing congress people with security. now? not so much. what's changed? the (D) is an (R)

Willow...the man complained about his job to the people that hired him.
If you went to your boss and said "I knew how bad this was going to be but I dont like how bad it is"...he would either fire you or tell you to resign.
This has nothing to do with party, ideology or left vs right.
This has to do with a man who doesnt like his job.
He should resign.

The man makes it clear that he has regrets about taking the position. He should resign immediately.

He doesn't sound like he's looking to get reelected.

Sadly, if the lazy bum ran again, he would have a 90% cahnce of getting re-elected.
And yes...he is an example of a lazy bum to me...one who has the job he wanted but complains about the work he has to do.

So anyway....

Yeah, it's depressing.

I think he comments might have knocked that 90% chance down a notch or two though.

read the whole fucking article in context and IF you have a brain you will discern that it wasn't a complaint but rather an explanation. try that.

what bothers me is here is a man who ASKED for the job....gets the job...and now complains about it to those that put him in there...

And those that out him in there? All they want is a job....any job.....and would likely kiss the ground they walk on as they enter their job...no matter how much they hate it.

This man needs to go.

Hes got an R after his name, that is all willow needs to know to defend him without a thought

"It's Hard Work!" He's not the first Republican who acts like he's surprised at how the job is not all wine and roses.

If you cant take my criticsm, dont interact with me.

And I read the whole article.....the man was out of line...and should resign.

Agreed.

If I approached the VP of my department, asked for and received a promotion, then went in his office nine months later to complain and tell him the job doesn't mean that much to me......I'd be gone.

lol....
You and TM are two peas in a pod Willow.

So you care how he votes, as long as he votes for what YOU want.
Doesnt matter that he puts little thought into his vote...becuase most people who hate what they do usually put little thought into what they do.

Whatever willow......

An acknowledgement that the job is hard and frustrating at times is far different than saying he doesn't want to serve. It would be nice if Congress was MORE concerned with seeing things from our perspective.
