Anna is movie about a beautiful but troubled young woman that is recruited to be a KGB assassin. Anna is told when she is first recruited that she will only have to serve as an agent for 3 years and then she will be able to leave the KGB and lead a comfortable life as she pleases. However, she soon learns that once a KGB agent, always a KGB agent. Anna's story is not told in a linear fashion; a series of flash backs and flash forwards are used as to not reveal critical details of Anna's story until absolutely necessary .
The reason that I decided to write this review today is because of the mass shootings in TX and OH that happened this weekend. Some people point to violence in movies as being an influence to those that commit such shootings. If any violent movies can be such an influence, this is one of them.
During the movie I was rooting for Anna, after all she was the hero of the movie. However, on reflection, this movie did not have good guys and bad guys. When Anna killed people, it wasn't because she was saving the world like James Bond. It was because it was her assignment, nothing more, nothing less. Anna was for all practical purposes a sociopath who showed empathy for almost no one. As an assassin Anna killed hundreds, never shedding a tear for everyone. Her lack of empathy is probably on of her traits that made her a great assassin. In a movie with good guys, Anna would most likely be a villain.
almost no one is going to go out and start shooting people because he saw a violent. But is there that one in a million sicko that will be pushed over the edge.......IDK!
