Barack Obama has often claimed that Islam was admired by America’s Founders, and made “great contributions” to the nation’s founding.

President John Quincy Adams would beg to differ.

He understood what so many people are afraid to admit today: that Islam is not a “religion of peace.” Those who commit evil in the name of Islam are just following what the Koran teaches.

African slaves brought to America were purchased at Muslim slave markets, where over Islam’s centuries of history an estimated 180 million were enslaved.

And after that i think, there is no reason to say that we enslaved all of them and our ancestors were guilty in making these people slaves! Well, dear liberal friends, what is your argument now?

Islam was NOT woven throughout our founding like Obama and the left want you to believe.
It has NEVER had any significance whatsoever throughout the history of this country.

Slavery existed the whole world over.....and it existed in America before the Europeans came.....and the Europeans and Africans started the African slave trade to the New World...and we had to deal with it after we kicked them out.....

No more will the left be able to just throw slavery out to smear the U.S.....the internet makes that impossible.......

In fact, muslims were a pain in the ass right after our founding as muslim pirates attacked our ships and demanded ransoms and bribes and enslaved our citizens....

Try reading a biography of JQA. He wasn't standing in judgement of Islam. JQA was a devout Unitarian who believed so strongly in freedom of religion that he refused to take the oath office by swearing on a bible - he used a book of laws instead. While we're at it, many of the enslaved that came here were Muslim. They were forced into Christianity by their masters when they got here. By your logic, that means Christianity can't be a religion of peace either.

The difference between slavery over the ages and slavery in the Americas is the racial aspect. Even after manumission, the former slave was still a second-class citizen. Historically, however, slavery was the result of war, indebtedness, criminality or religion, but when a slave was freed they became an equal member of society. It's the racial aspect that's led to effects we feel to the present day, effects that aren't felt in other places where slavery was common.

Yes, actually it is.....if you force someone to be a christian you are violating Christian teachings, not practicing them....while slavery in Islam is a core practice......

You are seeking to trivialize the history of enslaving peoples..Why did European Christian nations enslave SE European peoples by abduction?

You can read in your handy dandy Bible how to treat your slaves and who should or should not be enslaved...

Nice sentiment, but historically inaccurate. Freed slaves almost always joined the bottom rung of society (e.g., peasants, serfs and sharecroppers). The difference that America inherited was the large scale importation or racially distinct slaves. Unfortunately, the disastrous Civil War precluded a peaceful end to slavery, which otherwise occurred throughout the Western Hemisphere by the 1880's.

By the way, not trying to derail the thread, but an interesting factoid.
JQA, was the first known president to be photographed, although he was not in office at the time.

That is an awesome photo. It brings history to life.
I don't believe JQA would be considered a founding father, BTW.

Definitely not, but yeah that's a great photo.

Cabeza de Vaca was enslaved, escaped, and made it to Mexico City.

Enslaved by the "noble red man".

A candidate in the European elections was arrested on suspicion of racial harrassment after quoting a passage about Islam, written by Winston Churchill, during a campaign speech.

The passage from the book, written by the wartime Prime Minister and first published in 1899, focuses on Churchill's observations about Islam while serving during the Anglo-Egyptian reconquest of the Sudan.

Mr Weston told his audience: 'Improvident habits, slovenly systems of agriculture, sluggish methods of commerce, and insecurity of property exist wherever the followers of the Prophet rule or live.

'Thousands become the brave and loyal soldiers of the faith: all know how to die but the influence of the religion paralyses the social development of those who follow it.

'No stronger retrograde force exists in the world. Far from being moribund, Mohammedanism is a militant and proselytizing faith.'

Police officers arrested Mr Weston, mid-speech, for failing to comply with their request to move on under the powers of a dispersal order made against him.

He was further arrested on suspicion of religious or racial harrassment.

Bottom rung, perhaps, but equal to the other bottom rungers. The peaceful end of slavery without its current effects is your "nice sentiment". While mine is based on historical fact, yours is based on wishful thinking. What makes you think ex-slaves would have been treated ant differently under your scenario?

Slavery is all over the place in the Christian bible. Nice try.
