'America and Israel Must Open the Door to Hamas,' the 2007 Soros op-ed argued

No, if he had been listened to this may have happened much earlier and with potentially worse consequences for Israel. They could even have done so under the guise of a "recognized friend". Is that how those who run on your destruction should be treated?
Why would engagement have caused things to have happened sooner?

It is only speculation obviously. Based on the misinformation they were sending for two years, one can only imagine that the would have had even better intelligence and Israel would have trusted them even more. They would have been better funded via money from the West and Israel even less suspicious of any attempts to attack. Some say the cross border working of Gaza citizens allowed them to collect more intel for example. Instead of 1000 soldiers maybe they successfully send 3000. Instead of 5000 rockets maybe they fire off 10000. Since they have been at relative peace for so long, one might posture that their attack was inevitable.

<sigh> Read your link again. Israel did not just withdraw. They interfered with the formation of the Palestinian government. Which has led to war.

Again, Hamas is wrong in what they did but let's not kid ourselves. Israel also holds some blame for this. And Soros is right to point that out.
You are trying to equate two things that are not even close to being equal.
No one has said Israel is without it's problems. No one.
But Hamas is an organizations literally made up of people that will sacrifice their own lives if necessary to finish what Adolf Hitler would have done.

And you sit there and think you can make a deal with people like that?
Really?
That is your stance?
