Is Amazon concerned with a "Muslim boycott"?

One of the Israelis who is being held captive in the heart of the Gaza Strip, works as a software engineer at the retail giant Amazon - which did not come to his defense and did not say a word about what was happening.

28-year-old Sasha Trupanov, who worked at Annapurna Laboratories in Tel Aviv, was kidnapped that Black Saturday from his parents' house, along with his partner, his mother and his grandmother. His father, Vitali, was murdered in the brutal attack. On Wednesday, the mother Lena and grandmother Irena Tati were released from captivity as part of the deal with Hamas.

One of Sasha's colleagues gave an anonymous interview to the New York Post, and was furious with Amazon. "They say that 'it's not that we don't want to talk about him, it will just hurt him,'" he said.

On Wednesday, the Re:Invent conference was held in Las Vegas, where the CEO of Amazon's internet service spoke - but of course did not mention the ongoing tragedy of one of his employees.

Sasha's friends decided to take action, and rented trucks and advertising spaces near the conference area, emblazoned with the 28-year-old engineer's image.

"The goal was to show that Sasha is one of them, and to try to create emotion among the people who come to the conference and the humanitarian crisis with the hostages. It's not something far from them, it's a person just like them who was kidnapped," said Neta Alon, Sasha's friend.

She added that she was "disappointed" to know that "such a large company cannot even say out loud that it has an employee who is a hostage in Gaza." She also rejected Amazon's claims that if she talked about Sasha in public, it would put him in danger.

"We spoke with the former head of the Mossad, Yossi Cohen... he said there is no such danger," Alon insisted.

Sasha's anonymous friend said that Amazon's silence is a disgrace, and the company's behavior threw "its values out the window... They aspire to be the best employers in the world. Really? You have an employee kidnapped... His whole family was kidnapped or murdered. This is bullshit."

No.

And not concern either with the welfare of its employee

The guy is of the wrong skin shade.

It's not "politically correct" for Amazon...

I heard they have announced they are going to refuse to deliver to Gaza.

Damned if you do damned if you don't. If they speak up and he is murdered their family or even the public may blame Amazon and then shareholders have to pay for the impending lawsuit. Their hands are tied. Hamas did this, they are to blame.

Amazon is afraid that seeming to come out on the side of Israel might cut into their book sales ...
