Abuse of power is a problem in our country. When are the police going to be scrutinized?

Nah, I like my plan better.

Anarchy is not a plan.

It was really just a joke, designed to yank left wing nut chains.

Yuh huh, sure it was.

DELETED VIDEO

WTF is the deal with this video that starts playing itself? I just searched all my tabs to find out where this was coming from.

Mojo2 This thing needs to go. It's poisoning the whole thread.
Exactly. If I wanted to watch an episode of Adam 12 I would buy the DVD. What is this thread about?

Adam-12, is that what it was supposed to be? All I got was an endless stream of ads.
I get that ads are ubiquitous but when it starts playing by itself out of my control, that's when I put up a stop sign.

You dont understand the Police are good and just. They never make mistakes although if they do its totally understandable

They never get angry although if they do they have a tough job.

They never abuse their power although if they do...cut them a break yanno because assholes exist

The real problems are the Media literally trying to piss people off in mass, and the people who in turn just want to be pissed off and dont want to really research these events. Do you think that all the "protestors" in Ferguson really know all the facts? Are they using their brains? No, they simply hear "Some white cop shot an unarmed teenage black boy", ON THE NIGHTLY NEWS, and then, since they don't have a job or anything else to do, they go out and act like animals and destroy their own neighborhood. The media is downright irresponsible with the way they present stories (primarily CNN), and this enrages the public (typically those with lower intelligence), and here we are. The news is being presented in an inflammatory way, and those that dont bother or cant research the details themselves, become angry. I am really pointing the finger more at the media, because they present information in a way that is designed to shock and infuriate people. Freedom of the press is nice and all, but I feel it is being misused and it is causing national problems at this point.

I'll readily agree the media are irresponsible on these cases, and absolutely that they boil out a whole lot of relevant context to present only the emotional knee-jerk detritus left over. There's no question about that, and no question that the process is socially destructive.

However you project a bit much supposing that it's part of some grand plan to rile the unwashed into street fighting. That would be far deeper thought than they're capable of. It's much simpler than that -- they do it because it sells. Conflict always sells, and the more you can paint any situation as a conflict, the more you can draw more viewers to your media swill outlet and away from the competing media swill outlets. It's entirely self-interest.

Ever see the movie "Trading Places" where two rich guys swap the positions of two underlings, one rich one poor, for their own amusement over a wager of one dollar? Same thing -- the public, represented by Aykroyd and Murphy, are being played by the rich guys (media) over a Dollar. That's all there is to it.

The American Police have developed an embarrassingly notorious reputation around the world. They're being seen to be every bit as violent and possibly more so, than Police in oppressive Totalitarian Nations like Myanmar. Their propensity for violence is incredibly disturbing. We do have a problem with our Police.

There are many countries where police are far more violent than the US, for example Mexico, Pakistan, Egypt, In these and many other countries police are judge, jury, and executor. You won't find video recording equipment in police cars nor will you find review boards scrutinizing every violent act by the police. Beating confessions out of prisoners, torture, and intimidation of witness is so common it's not news.

Yes, and we're trying to prevent socialists and tinpot dictators like Obama from dragging us down to their level.

You cannot blame the media. It feeds off of what it's viewers/readers/listeners want in the main. Every cable system in the nation has C-SPAN yet its ratings are lower than Sasha and Malia's shoe size. Because it presents nothing but information.

I'm not certain what the media is "getting wrong" in the Brown case or in the case of the guy up in New York City. And I think the viewers/readers/listeners can cut to the bottom line;
  • black victim
  • white authority figure
  • extreme force was used in both cases for less than extreme breaches of the law or (in Brown's case) a time lapse between the extreme breach and the execution of the force
  • and the jurisprudence system is okay with that.

Since integrity in new reporting has long since disappeared, I suppose you can't blame them. The job of the media is to increase viewers, listeners, and readers. Real news is often rather dull and can't compete with other forms of entertainment so it must be made more appealing, spectacular, and emotional.

Get rid of cops entirely, arm everyone. Problem solved.
How bout we just get rid of bad law? And stop expecting police to enforce ludicrous regulations.

YES YES YES.

I know we've disagreed before. But you couldnt be more right. I mean...intellectually right.

You nailed it. Cops are being tasked with enforcement of stupid petty laws...passed by politicians pandering to whining citizens with influence.

Spot on OP.
