Seems like the choice is a 'viable' one.....

1."When the Rev. Thomas Vander Woude learned about a young couple planning to abort their unborn baby that had been diagnosed with Down syndrome, the priest reached out and offered a deal: Deliver the child and he would help find an appropriate adoptive family.....

2. But he had to act fast.....six months pregnant and lives in a state that prohibits abortions past 24 weeks — which meant he had a short time to find a family willing to make a lifelong commitment

3. ....posted an urgent plea on Facebook early Monday morning.
“There is a couple in another state who have contacted an adoption agency looking for a family to adopt their Down Syndrome unborn baby. If a couple has not been found by today they plan to abort the baby. If you are interested in adopting this baby please contact....

“We are asking all to pray for this baby and the wisdom that this couple realize the importance of human life and do not abort this beautiful gift from God.”

4. No one expected the response they received.
....All day long, we were receiving phone calls from people who wanted to adopt the baby,” ... over 900 emails in regard to the baby.”

5. .....phone calls from all over the United States and around the world, including from England, Puerto Rico and the Netherlands.

6. “It was a beautiful witness all day long that so many people wanted this child and believed in the dignity of that child — Down syndrome or not.”

7. ...the importance of informing couples who are considering abortion for babies with Down syndrome that adoption is a viable option, pointing to the fast and overwhelming response her organization received....

8. ...all day long, just receiving phone calls from people who were so generous and within a couple minutes made a life-changing decision. I was really inspired by the goodness of people and what they would do to save a life.”
Hundreds call to adopt Down syndrome baby, save it from abortion - Washington Times

It remains to be seen whether the President of the United States,
who found the time to personally call the first admitted gay NBA basketball player,
will likewise honor the family who is selected to adopt this baby....

I suspect the 'problem' of abortion (and the dilemma of abortion vs adoption) will soon be rendered moot by technology and advances in surgical procedures. Instead of killing an unborn child, we'll simply remove the fetus and implant the little guy into another womb.

Sort of like using a seedling instead of growing from a seed. We'll be able to skip 'in vitro' fertilization and go directly to embryo / fetus transfer.

Further, I also suspect we'll be able to fix or prevent chromosomal abnormalities like Down's Syndrome in utero.

My guess anyway.

I admit I was in a position where I had to learn that I was wrong about a misconception. I thought that a disabled child would be very difficult to place for adoption. I was completely wrong. It is almost creepy how many people are more than happy to adopt a disabled child - mostly because the child can receive medical care and/or a financial subsidy for their entire childhood and possibly for the rest of their life. Plus adopting a handicapped child is often cheaper because there is a bigger government subsidy to cover some of those costs.

Abortion is a dishonorable thing. Choosing adoption is not rewarded anywhere NEAR enough by society. If people REALLY want to make a dent in the abortion statistics they should invest in programs to help people who might be thinking about getting them. Advice, support, and caring will go a LONG way towards reducing the number of abortions in this country.

Further, hundreds of thousands of children go unadopted every year. Gay couples should be allowed to adopt and be afforded the same rights of straight couples. A child loved and supported by ANYONE is better than an orphan who is neglected.

I'd take the child, even without the financial help of the govt. I have 11 year old still in the home out of 4 and I don't get a check from any govt.

Or abnormalities like Homosexuality, Liberalism or Conservatism and the big one: Free Will.

Yeah, well, I hope they do some psychological testing on those prospective adoptive parents for that child. People are freaky and I don't trust them. Kind of like people who get a puppy because it's so cute and then it ends up living by itself tied up in the back yard its entire life.

I'd bet a high percentage of the people responding and wanting to adopt the child are freaks. Please weed them out before entrusting an innocent life to their care.

Perhaps the 'weeding' should begin with folks who find that those with grace are 'freaky.'

You couldn't have picked a better avi than a dog.

There's no need to "weed" me out. I'm not asking anyone to entrust an innocent life to me. You get that, don't you? The only reason to "weed" is to protect the child. And surely you know there must be some whackos amongst those offering to take the child. They're not necessarily all full of grace.

Pardon me for being suspicious, but realize that my concern is for the child.

You do understand that people are more willing to adopt newborns more than they are for kids who are 5 years old or older, right?

Trust me...................I was orphaned at 8 and never was adopted. Although, I did spend several years in foster homes until I ran away to live with my Grandparents.

But still.....................why force a woman to have a child they didn't want in the first place?

Many people will adopt a disabled child for the right reasons, but many others will adopt them solely because they can get a fortune in benefits from the government.

Its also a reason why a number of couples foster children - its their source of income.

So it's better to kill the baby instead, just because YOU think they MIGHT be in it for the wrong reasons? Seems like the only outcome you would approve of is abortion, no matter what.

Never see Liberals fight for support of adoption, funding for adoption, educating people on the adoption
side of the coin...

But go anywhere near their fixation for abortion and they will literally chew your nuts off.

Women learned long ago that the best way to gain control s through sex. Abortion is all about control...nothing else.

I personally approve, by far, of adoption instead of abortion.

BUT, local and state governments have put up so many blockades to abortion that it's almost impossible for an "average" family to get approval. And, the process can take years!

If you want to reduce the number of abortions, get the bureaucrats and lawyers out of the way and let local pastors and priests make the decision. [Or even Rabis and Imans]

The Left is all about a personal morality that allows anything at any time....
