"a shot heard round the world": Crazy Bernie praises Bezos for raising Amazon workers minimum wage

Once again, you have a total lack of a sense of irony. You are going to punish a company for giving their employees a raise, it is you that just might be lack a soul to start with.

What did those employees every do to you that you are pissed off at them getting a raise that you would quit using the company?

Why do you hate the Amazon employees?

When one company overpays, they create an unnatural and artificial expectation for employees at other companies. That raises prices for those of us who use their products or services across the industry.

I have serious issues with any employee who is getting paid more than their actual value to their employer.

You seem like a hate filled person that is pissed off that other people are getting something you are not. Are you mad because Wendy's will not give you a raise?

I am a hate filled person and always have been.

I get paid very well for what I do, and due to our contract I know I’ll be getting 2.75%, 3%,and 3% raises the next three years. My issue is the work I do that actually belongs to other people. Thankfully due to that same contract I’ll be getting the chance to demand that work be removed to its proper place or my pay be increased. I’d rather the former than the later.

What the fuck makes you think you know the value of a worker to a company?

You are clueless as to their value to the company.

How is your value to the company determined for your wage to be set?

You are clueless as to their value to the company.

If they’re being paid “X” currently and they’re not increasing their work or the cost of the product/service then it’s ridiculous to suggest they have earned a higher rate than “X”.

When a company needs X amount of workers and they can only keep U amount of workers, then the company has to take steps to bring in more workers. In an environment with more jobs than people the best way is to pay more.

Or it might be as others suggested and this is a move by Amazon to drive the competition under, then it is a small price to pay for the future customers gained.

Being fill of hate is far better than living a lie.

My value is determined by a Union contract; it has been negotiated over the last decade through four different contracts and we will soon be meeting to revise and update the department’s job descriptions and pay rates.

I’m working at Amazon today. Timing couldn’t be better. It’s going about like you’d expect. Those that were promoted to 15 are wanting to know if they’re now going to get 20. It’s rolling right through the chain.
Socialism is only embraced by Progressives who have no sense of reality

A private company paying their employees has nothing to do with Socialism, why do you keep bringing it up?
A company can fail at socialism just like a country. That’s what is happening at Amazon right now. The people that were making 15 are asking what their raise is going to be. If the person that just started and is doing the simple job now gets as much as you but you’re responsible for their work you want more.

Bezos opened a Pandora’s box. We shall see how it works out.

One does go from the child of a teenager mother to the richest man in the world without knowing what they hell they are doing.

There are more choices than being hate filled and living a lie...there is in fact a lot of ground between those two.

So, your value is not determined by the company, but by what the union can force the company to pay you...and then you whine about Amazon.

That is pretty darn funny!

It’s funny how the trumpers want to make America great again, then complain when workers get better pay. What confused idiots...

  • Amazon warehouse workers are no longer eligible to receive monthly bonuses and stock awards.
  • Amazon made the change as it announced a minimum-wage increase on Tuesday.
  • The change could make some longtime workers to make less money, according to The Guardian.

Most people would prefer a set pay amount instead of relying on bonuses which were hit and miss. The problem with bonuses is they are not a sure thing and you cannot plan around them, or you should not at least.

I do love how your rubes see the word "could" as in "could make some..." and take it as an established fact.

Indeed. With all of the criticism over the hourly wage, Bezos saw an opening to get rid of the incentive comp system and lower his labor costs.

I'd take my chances with bonuses. That works for me however some don't like that way of working.

I will believe it when I see it

The funny thing is that Bezos does not believe they will. He is calling for the law to be changed to force other companies to follow his lead. Amazon already pays above par for comparable job.

Democrats would be foolish to praise Bezos. This is part PR stunt. But it's also a very shrewd attack against his competitors. Given the recent negative press Amazon has received, this makes them look like heroes. But the secret behind the curtain is that Bezos knows that most of his competitors won't be able to survive a $15 minimum wage. Amazon can, but many others can't.

The end result would be that many Amazon jobs that currently pay more than the minimum, but not more than $15 an hour, will be instantly transformed into minimum wage jobs. This will help Amazon to reduce employees expectations of higher pay for better jobs. Meanwhile, if the federal minimum wage is raised to match, Bezos now gets away with paying minimum wage while his market share increases when competitors fall off. Eventually, when the economy has adjusted with inflation et al, Amazon has successfully transformed itself to being a predominantly minimum wage labor force, while the broader American economy has more nominal cash, a larger share of which gets spent at Amazon when competitors are sent to the poorhouse.
The minimum wage in the city of Seattle where Amazon is headquartered is $15/he. Maybe this is a way to standardize wages throughout the company irrespective of location

Relying on bonuses is like relying on OT, sooner or later they do not show up and then you are screwed.

Based upon the article that Eugene Kim wrote, nobody will make less money.

Amazon's hourly workers lose monthly bonuses and stock awards as minimum wage increases

The confirmation follows multiple reports on Wednesday that some of Amazon's warehouse employees say they will make less as a result of this change. The Guardian said warehouse workers currently receive one Amazon share (worth $1,959) at the end of every year, on top of another single share reward every five years. Yahoo Newsnoted that warehouse workers can earn up to 8 percent of their monthly income every month, which could be as much as $3,000 a year for some workers. Workers were notified of the change on Wednesday, according to Bloomberg.

Amazon disclosed in its announcement on Tuesday that it is replacing the stock awards program with the minimum-wage increase because employees prefer the "predictability and immediacy of cash" compared with stock awards. The company also noted that it was "phasing out the incentive pay component," in an answer to a question phrased as "Is it required to hit any incentive targets in order to get the $15 minimum wage?"

Pay for workers goes up and some people get upset. Yes some poor worker making 15 dollars per hour is terrible... Unbelievable that you are upset. What is wrong with you? 15 per hour is a nothing and you complain. SHAME on you. Pathetic.
