An already tough climb to pass comprehensive climate and energy legislation in the Senate just got a bit tougher with Republican Scott Brown's upset victory yesterday in Massachusetts.

Sen.-Elect Brown's Win Adds More Question Marks to Senate Climate Debate - NYTimes.com

This legislation which was already in trouble in the first place it appears with this election will have even more problems passing. So much like the healthcare bill, that will leave other options to pass it or Administrative options to do so. While I do think the nation needs to finally address its energy issues once and for all this bill is not a way to go about it and should it pass with other than traditional methods given the recent results in MA. there is a good posibility that other states are likely to follow suit.

All moonbattery is dead now.

Harry and Nan have to actually do the country's business again, and stop with the loony wishlist nonsense.

I think the current incumbents can take it to the bank that change is acomin'.... and there ain't no hope attached... Just the wrath of 'We, the People'.

They start passing shit with by using the nuclear option, then they are truly doomed.

It would be nice to see this government turn to means of creating affordable energy instead of trying to decrease affordable energy in a time of need.

For those under the impression that the cap and trade bill is an energy bill they are sadly mistaken. It is a energy tax bill nothing more. A real energy bill will end this nations need to seek out sources of fuel from the Middle East and other nations that use the finances of that to fund the purchase of weapons to further agendas wordwide and effect our economy. A lot of talk is expended in job creation, you want a Stimulus, then craft an energy bill that lets this nation use ALL its sources of energy to end that dependence and you have a Stimulus unlike any other. While many want to be good stewards of the environment and see this as the primary reason for crafting the cap and trade bill, we can and do have the ability to use our own energy and also be sensitive of the environment. Our nation can tap its own energy sources, nuclear, natural gas, wind, solar, oil shale, oil, and many others and still do so in an environmentally friendly way, all it takes is the people willing to do it. So with this election, hopefully it will send Congress back to the drawing board to craft a real energy bill rather than a energy tax bill.

You are asking for reason from unreasonable people.

Evironmentalists protest EVERY attempt at alternative energy sources, be it wind, nuclear or solar. Look at what happened when they wanted to put solar planels in the dessert, it was protested!

A true energy bill can't happen until the gov turns a deaf ear to the narrow special interest groups that block every attempt at improving the energy situation.

PEOPLE first, bugs and fish second.

Your post remined me of something, I don't know why, the large solar farm proposed in the desert out here being taken to court to stop it by the same environmental groups backing these same alternative energy sources.

Tessera Solar plans to plant 34,000 solar dishes — each one 40 feet high and 38 feet wide — on 8,230 acres of the Mojave Desert in Southern California.

Although the lengthy licensing process for the Calico solar farm remains in the early stages, several environmental groups are already raising red flags about the massive project’s impact on such protected wildlife as the desert tortoise, the Mojave fringe-toed lizard and Nelson’s bighorn sheep.

It seems to me that ending our energy dependence on foreign oil and natural gas is about the biggest Stimulus our nation can ever come up with. To suggest that we cannot produce our own energy here because it is bad for the environment is in my opinion not giving Americans very much credit for their abilities. This current cap and trade bill does not set out to end that dependence rather through tax punishments it sets up a method to change habits and continue that dependence. Hopefully with elections like the one last night we can at the very least begin a rational conversation on this issue rather that one that centers around putting the needs of this nation behind the needs of the environmental lobby.

That is exactly what I was talking about.

No mater WHAT the project, they will find a fish, a bird, a bug that must be saved and raise their 'red flags' and teh project will die.

That is why california is in such a mess energy wise, and many states will join them sooner or later.

Its going to come down to whether people believe a 'dodo bird' that nobody sees and produces nothing is more important then turning the USA into a third world shithole like Haiti.

I think we'll see the end of these looney tune, utopian style "dreams" of the left for the time being. Doesn't mean that they'll abandon them forever but at least in the short term, 4-5 years
