Political media and politicians themselves often generate clear, if not terribly accurate, stereotypes about a candidate’s supporters. In the case of Donald Trump, the mental image you often get of his fans is that of a middle-aged, high-school-educated, white man who has lost (or is in danger of losing) his manufacturing job. He blames foreigners, elites, and minorities for not playing by the rules he observes, and for the social pathologies he sees around him — even in his own struggling family and community. He used to be a Democrat, and he retains enough New Deal sympathies to reject the economic views of Establishment Republicans.

There are plenty of those kind of Trump supporters around, but there is another significant component of his peculiar coalition, and The Atlantic’s Molly Ball describes them well:

A Big Part of Trump’s Movement Will Soon Literally Die Off

Realizing how much of Trump’s following comes from voters in their golden years may not make much difference in predicting this election. But it does matter in projecting the future of Trumpism. Older Trump voters who see him as a last chance to go back to the 1950s will soon be gone.

We make more old people everyday and old people are wise, which is why they so often vote Republican. Don't you get it by now? The left has a lock on ignorant young people, but then they grow up and get a clue and they become Republicans. Republicans will ALWAYS have the senior vote dummy.

those folks at the tea party rallies looked a little ragged back in 2009, today they're like zombies

sure hope the Dems watch out for these dead voters in 2018

Sounds like molly ball is just trying to give you something of a future to look to...I mean think bout it, if winning an election by waiting for the elderly to die off is the best idea she put forward what happens in 2018 when democrats will have about 2.5 times more seats to defend just to keep the minority they have?
and in 2020 when redistricting goes into effect?
That redistricting will affect several elections down the line [for 10 years]...then there is the supreme court, this appointment will give the GOP a 5-4 tilt in balance, and it is a pretty safe assumption that they will get another appointment as well...so if you want to hang your hat on molly's "war of attrition" instead of cleaning house I would suggest you save her column and in a few years mail it back to her...once the GOP can get a 6-3 court, owning the white house will be nothing more than a figurehead position or the lefts participation trophy.
