80K new jobs in June; 85K more people on disability in June

old people become disabled too you fuckwit.

go get the average age of these disability collectors

YOU go get it.
You libs are consistent. Never take responsibility for anything. Always demand someone else do your work for you.
You have the mental capacity of a Formica counter top.

Ed, The WSJ is hardly discredited- honest. Are you OK?
As anyone with any level of awareness knows the WSJ has lost all credibility since Murdoch bought it, which my post which you did not address proved!

The liars at WSJ claimed that SSI disability was being "TAPPED" by people who were not disabled but had merely run out of UE benefits and used the increase in the number of "APPLICATIONS" as their "proof." What the liars at the WSJ left out, (the most professional liars tell just enough "truth" to deceive and then shut up), was that the number of REJECTIONS has also increased. That means that able bodied people who only applied because their UE ran out are not "TAPPING" the disability fund,

That's right, as more apply, more get rejected.

Keep digging yourself a hole Ed.

The OP gives some numbers on the actual increase in the number of people on disability.....you can do the math yourself. Or maybe you can't.
When caught lying, CON$ervoFascists just keep on lying. The number of people on disability has been increasing since the Reagan economic "miracle."

Rise In Disability Rolls Helps Explain An Unemployment Mystery
Again we see what lying scum CON$ervofascists are, your link actually rebuts the CON$ervoFascist lie!!!

From your own link:

So does the rise in disability rolls solve some of the labor-force mystery? Not exactly.

The extra number of workers clambering onto the disability lifeboat since the recession began may account for about a quarter of the drop in the labor force participation rate since the recession began, according to the Bloomberg story, citing research notes by JPMorgan Chase and Morgan Stanley.

But that still leaves millions of people out of the work force for different reasons. A lot are discouraged and have given up hope of finding work, certainly.

But the majority of them, likely, have just decided to retire, many economists think. And given the aging of the Baby Boom demographic, that will likely continue, meaning labor-force participation will continue to be sluggish and the unemployment rate may never fully reflect just how many people are out of work.

What's more, it would be a mistake to think that the recent jump in disability benefits is in any way unusual. Disability claims tend to rise during recessions, and the pace of growth since the latest recession hasn't been any faster than the pace of growth in past recessions.

Though it may disappoint readers who want to use rising disability claims to suggest President Obama has launched a socialist nanny state, disability rolls have in fact been rising pretty much steadily since the Reagan administration, which is another mystery economists have been trying to solve for a long time.

So they don't KNOW either.

But the almighty Ed does.

Serious question, how does only 80k jobs not bring the UE up when you need at least 250k to stay even with population growth?

How is this possible month after month? I seriously would like an answer.

The BLS "adjusts" the number of eligible workers each month.
This is why that roughly 10 business days after the unemployment numbers are released, the adjusted figure less the number of workers the BLS no longer considers as part of the workforce.

Yes, turdball...

And as YOUR article points out....there is an increase of the number of people on the rolls whenever there is a dip in the economy.

Why don't you shove your self-righteous attitude up your oversized ass ?

"In just the last month, almost 275,000 put in applications for disability benefits." Does not not mean they will qualify. Lies by insinuation and omission.

Now you want to Blame Obama for people's disabilities?:eusa_shifty:

No you rocket scientist. The point is job growth is so slow that the number of those newly receiving public assistance out numbers the gains in jobs.
SHEESH....
Use your brain. If you've got one.
Or you can just shut up and let the intelligent people discuss.

Ed, I don't know you, but your stating WSJ has lost credibility makes you appear nothing more then a crank.

imagine old people being to old to work.

damned those old people

Age has nothing to do with this.
Only an imbecile such as yourself would make this leap.
Age and Bush's 2 wars have everything to do with it.
Only a heartless POS would deny it.

The SSDI covered worker population has aged significantly: In 2000, 23% of covered workers were age 50 and over; in 2010, 32% were 50 and over. The table below illustrates this trend.

As the chart you pretend not to be able to see shows, the number of disabled declined throughout the Reagan Recession, and started to rise as soon as the Reagan Recession ended in Dec 1982, and has been rising ever since whether the economy was booming or busting.

Another tidbit you seemed to miss as your head was headed back up your ass was that laws passed in 1984 made it a whole hell of a lot easier to get on disability.

Fear not this is part of Papa's Obama's plan and it will not hurt
his bus tour....

Obama's bus tour hits bump or The Magical Misery Tour

Papa Obama’s started his most great bus tour through Ohio and Pennsylvania.

Sadly, another bad jobs report came out during his bus tour showing 8.2% unemployment,
the worst quarter in 2 years - Damn these fascists capitalists for not doing their part!

Worry not- Papa Obama has a plan- Disability
The economy might have only created 80,000 jobs in June, but that same month,
85,000 workers left the workforce entirely to enroll in the Social Security Disability.

Papa Obama's genius should never be underestimated!
No Job - no problem- Put then on Disability and keep them dependent on gov't-
A pure Progressive dream !

Comrades, this is only a temporary setback and besides,
As Papa Obama says, most people "Would Acknowledge That I've Tried Real Hard"

I could not agree more, we all know he is "trying"

Your own link makes a liar out of you. the old WSJ won ALL those prizes BEFORE Murdoch took over in Dec 2007. Since then it has been nothing but a right-wing propaganda rag.

From your own link:

On December 13, 2007, shareholders representing more than 60 percent of Dow Jones's voting stock approved the company's acquisition by News Corp.[24]
In an editorial page column, publisher L. Gordon Crovitz said the Bancrofts and News Corp. had agreed that the Journal's news and opinion sections would preserve their editorial independence from their new corporate parent:[25]
A special committee was established to oversee the Journal's editorial integrity. When the managing editor Marcus Brauchli resigned on April 22, 2008, the committee said that News Corporation had violated its agreement by not notifying the committee earlier. However, Brauchli said he believed that new owners should appoint their own editor.[26]
A 2007 Journal article quoted charges that Murdoch had made and broken similar promises in the past. One large shareholder commented that Murdoch has long "expressed his personal, political and business biases through his newspapers and television stations." Former Times assistant editor Fred Emery remembers an incident when "Mr. Murdoch called him into his office in March 1982 and said he was considering firing Times editor Harold Evans. Mr. Emery says he reminded Mr. Murdoch of his promise that editors couldn't be fired without the independent directors' approval. 'God, you don't take all that seriously, do you?' Mr. Murdoch answered, according to Mr. Emery." Murdoch eventually forced out Evans.[27] Coincidentally, 2007 was also the last year that the Wall Street Journal won any Pulitzer prizes.

So now you are claiming that a change in the law in 1984 and not the economy caused the number of disabled to rise.

Of course the laws were amended in 1977 and 1980 and they actually increased stringency in adjudicating claims and conducting continuing disability reviews which caused the only dip in the increase in the number of beneficiaries on that chart.

3.1 Million Workers Join Disability Ranks Vs. 2.6 Million That Got Jobs In Obama Recovery - Investors.com

More workers joined the federal government's disability program in June than got new jobs, according to two new government reports, a clear indicator of how bleak the nation's jobs picture is after three full years of economic recovery.

The economy created just 80,000 jobs in June, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Friday. But that same month, 85,000 workers left the workforce entirely to enroll in the Social Security Disability Insurance program, according to the Social Security Administration.

The disability ranks have outpaced job growth throughout President Obama's economic recovery. While the economy has created 2.6 million jobs since June 2009, fully 3.1 million workers signed up for disability benefits.

In other words, the number of new disability enrollees has climbed 19% faster than the number of new jobs created during the sluggish recovery. (Even after accounting for people who left the disability program because they died or aged into retirement, the disability ranks have climbed more than 1.1 million in the past three years.)

And the disability ranks will continue to swell. In just the last month, almost 275,000 put in applications for disability benefits. Experts say that more people try to get on disability when jobs are scarce, and changes to eligibility rules enacted back in 1984 have made it far easier to qualify.
