5 Of The Most Violent Cities In The World Are Right Here In America

also you do not see any French, Brit, Or German cities on the list--do you?
any European cities??
why is this??!!

...again --lot's of people are surprised Chicago also isn't on the list
...I also thought LA was bad until my coworker said she heard otherwise--we couldn't believe it, so we researched
2017:
STL population 320,000 murders 199
Chi population 2,700,00 murders 650
LA pop. 3,900,000 murders 271
NYC pop. 8,500,00 murders 290--compare this to STL
and before 2017, Chicago's murders were a lot lower
Crosses count 199 St. Louis murders in 2017

Chicago homicides down sharply in 2017, still over 650 slain
2017 was record-low for homicides in New York City

also, the other state's murder rates are lower than Missouri
Murder Rates Nationally and By State | Death Penalty Information Center
STL 8.8 .... Il 8.2.....CA 4.9...NY 3.2
NY, CA, Chi gun controlled
STL, MO very pro gun

New York city was cleaned up by a Republican mayor....his law enforcement policies of actually arresting criminals reduced their crime rate...and now, the socialist mayor is reversing those policies.....

New York...

Don’t Take the Wrong Lessons from NYC’s Murder Drop

New York City’s formerly high-crime neighborhoods have experienced a stunning degree of gentrification over the last 15 years, thanks to the proactive-policing-induced conquest of crime. It is that gentrification which is now helping fuel the ongoing crime drop. Urban hipsters are flocking to areas that once were the purview of drug dealers and pimps, trailing in their wake legitimate commerce and street life, which further attracts law-abiding activity and residents in a virtuous cycle of increasing public safety.

The degree of demographic change is startling.

In Brooklyn’s Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood, for example, the number of white residents rose 1,235 percent from 2000 to 2015, while the black population decreased by 17 percent, reports City Lab.

In Bushwick, Brooklyn, the number of whites rose 610 percent over that same decade and a half; the black population was down 22 percent. Central Harlem’s white population rose 846 percent; the black share dropped 10 percent. In 2000, whites were about three-quarters of the black population in Brownsville-Ocean Hill; by 2015, there were twice as many whites as blacks.

In 2000, whites were one-third of the black population in Crown Heights North and Prospect Heights; now they exceed the black population by 20,000. The Brooklyn Navy Yards has now been declared the next cool place to be by the tech industry. Business owners are moving their residences as well as their enterprises to the area.

This demographic transformation has enormous implications for crime.

A black New Yorker is 50 times more likely to commit a shooting than a white New Yorker, according to perpetrator identifications provided to the police by witnesses to, and victims of, those shootings.

Those victims are overwhelmingly minority themselves.

When the racial balance of a neighborhood changes radically, given those crime disparities, its violent-crime rate will as well. (This racial crime disparity reflects the breakdown of the black family and the high percentage of black males — upwards of 80 percent in some neighborhoods — being raised by single mothers.)

----

The high-crime areas of Baltimore and Chicago have not been gentrified. Baltimore is experiencing its highest per capita murder rate for the third year in a row. While Chicago’s homicide numbers are down somewhat this year, thanks to the aggressive use of shot-spotter technology, they remain at a level far higher than in the past decade.

4. Millions of illegal weapons
France is awash with illegal weapons, with some experts saying that the number of illegal guns may be twice the number of legal ones.
Weapons such as Kalashnikovs, many of which were originally used in the Balkan wars in the 1990s, can be bought for less than 3,000 euros on the black market.
Kalashnikovs are the weapon of choice in deadly score-settling between rival drug gangs in the southern port city of Marseille.
The assault rifles were also the main weapon used in the radical Islamist terror attacks in France in recent years.
The worst single mass shooting took place in the Bataclan concert hall in Paris in November 2015, when gunmen sprayed concert-goers with bullets, killing 89 of them. Dozens more were killed in other attacks the same night in the French capital.

But in recent years a black market has proliferated. The number of illegal weapons has risen at a rapid rate – double-digit percentages – for several years, according to the National Observatory for Delinquency, a body created in 2003.

“In Marseille and the surrounding area almost all the score settling is carried out using weapons used in wars,” a police spokesman told Reuters after the Toulouse attacks, adding that Kalashnikovs were the weapon of choice: “If you don’t have a ‘Kalash’ you’re a bit of a loser.”

The arsenal of weapons deployed by the eight attackers who terrorised Paris on Friday night underlined France’s gun control problems and raised the spectre of further attacks.

The country has extremely strict weapons laws, but Europe’s open borders and growing trade in illegal weapons means assault rifles are relatively easy to come by on the black market.

France’s real gun problem

Despite these strict laws, France seems to be awash with guns. The guns used in high-profile terror attacks are really just the tip of the iceberg. In 2012, French authorities estimated that there were around 30,000 guns illegally in the country, many likely used by gangs for criminal activities. Of those guns, around 4,000 were likely to be "war weapons," Le Figaro reported, referring to items such as the Kalashnikov AK-variant rifles and Uzis. Statistics from the National Observatory for Delinquency, a government body created in 2003, suggest that the number of guns in France has grown by double digits every year.

I am surprised that New York City isn't on the list, especially if cops are no longer allowed on any school properties there.

God bless you always!!!

New York was cleaned up by Republican, Rudy Giuliani...and his crime control policies were followed by bloomberg, but are being discarded by de blasio....so their current, lower gun crime rate is likely going to go up...

And yes...we can use statistics....because you are using one factor to make your false point....

Chicago has a high gun murder rate because of democrat policies on releasing violent gun criminals from jail.

St. Louis has a high gun murder rate because of democrat policies on releasing violent gun criminals from jail.

Baltimore, extreme gun control...and high gun murder rates because of democrat policies on releasing violent gun criminals from jail....

France......absolute gun control for fully automatic military rifles, semi automatic rifles and pistols....and those are the weapons that French Criminals and terrorists use and are using in greater numbers each year.....

And yet murder is not the measure of gun control.....as you have been shown over and over again...gun crime is going up all over Europe, it is going down in the U.S......we have 17 million people carrying guns for self defense now, and our gun murder rate is down 49%, our gun crime rate is down 75%, and our violent crime rate is down 72%....

Britain...gun crime is up 23%, gun crime is up 42% in logon..... violent crime in some areas of Britain is up 95%....

Culture of violence: Gun crime goes up by 89% in a decade | Daily Mail Online

The latest Government figures show that the total number of firearm offences in England and Wales has increased from 5,209 in 1998/99 to 9,865 last year - a rise of 89 per cent.

The number of people injured or killed by guns, excluding air weapons, has increased from 864 in 1998/99 to a provisional figure of 1,760 in 2008/09, an increase of 104 per cent .

Crime rise is biggest in a decade, ONS figures show

Ministers will also be concerned that the country is becoming increasingly violent in nature, with gun crime rising 23% to 6,375 offences, largely driven by an increase in the use of handguns.

Gun crime in London increases by 42% - BBC News

Gun crime offences in London surged by 42% in the last year, according to official statistics.

Top trauma surgeon reveals shocking extent of London’s gun crime

A leading trauma surgeon has told how the number of patients treated for gunshot injuries at a major London hospital has doubled in the last five years.

----

He said the hospital’s major trauma centre had seen a bigger rise in gunshot injuries compared to knife wounds and that the average age of victims was getting younger.

-----

Last year, gun crime offences in London increased for a third year running and by 42 per cent, from 1,793 offences in 2015/16 to 2,544 offences in 2016/17. Police have seized 635 guns off the streets so far this year.

Dr Griffiths, who also teaches medical students, said: “Our numbers of victims of gun injury have doubled [since 2012]. Gunshot injuries represent about 2.5 per cent of our penetrating trauma.

-----

Dr Griffiths said the average age of gun crime victims needing treatment at the hospital had decreased from 25 to the mid to late teens since 2012.

He added that medics at the Barts Health hospital’s major trauma centre in Whitechapel had seen a bigger rise in patients with gun injuries rather than knife wounds and that most were caused by pistols or shotguns.

Met Police commander Jim Stokley, who was also invited to speak at the meeting, said that handguns and shotguns were the weapons of choice and that 46 per cent of London’s gun crime discharges were gang-related.

He said: “We believe that a lot of it is associated with the drugs trade, and by that I mean people dealing drugs at street level and disagreements between different gangs.”

Violent crime on the rise in every corner of the country, figures suggest

But analysis of the figures force by force, showed the full extent of the problem, with only one constabulary, Nottinghamshire, recording a reduction in violent offences.

The vast majority of police forces actually witnessed double digit rises in violent crime, with Northumbria posting a 95 per cent increase year on year.

Of the other forces, Durham Police recorded a 73 per cent rise; West Yorkshire was up 48 per cent; Avon and Somerset 45 per cent; Dorset 39 per cent and Warwickshire 37 per cent.

Elsewhere Humberside, South Yorkshire, Staffordshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Kent, Wiltshire and Dyfed Powys all saw violence rise by more than a quarter year on year.

London pop.8,700,00 murders 113 --2015
STL 320,000 murders 188---2015
--27 TIMES the population, but less murders !!!!--
that would be 5000--not 113
difference is 5000 and 113 !!!
again--a difference that cannot be denied

2015 Was St. Louis' Deadliest Year in Two Decades
London murder rate up 14% over the past year
But even if France had a mass shooting as deadly as the Paris attacks every month, its annual rate of gun homicide death would be lower than that in the United States.
In other high-income countries, gun homicides are unusual events.
Comparing Gun Deaths by Country: The U.S. Is in a Different World
no --you can't argue these numbers--they are so much different
..this is like the other threads where I state numbers that are undeniably higher and people want to deny them
etc etc

#41 New Orleans

#42 Detroit

How they got there is outlined @ 5 Of The Most Violent Cities In The World Are Right Here In America

The complete list is there too and 41 are in Mexico and Latin America. TGhe other four are in South Africa. Go figure. Where are the European ones with Muslim enclaves?
Detroit's 42?

They need to work harder!

also you do not see any French, Brit, Or German cities on the list--do you?
any European cities??
why is this??!!

London is now more violent than the New York city, and gun crime is up all over England and Wales....up 23% across the country and up 42% in London....
Murder rate still higher in London than New York.

London now more dangerous than New York City, crime stats suggest

And while gun crime has increased in the UK- it is still vastly less than the United States.

In 2015-16 (the twelve months beginning in March), there were 26 fatalities from gun-related crimes in England and Wales (equivalent to 130 because Great Britain 1/5 the size of the US).

Police in the UK fired their guns 7 times in 2015.

Number of Murders by Firearms, US, 2016: 11,004

Percentage of all Murders that were committed by firearms in 2016 in US: 73%

Percentage of all murders in England and Wales that were committed by firearm: 4.5%

Five things to know about guns in France

Paris attacks highlight France's gun control problems

But in recent years a black market has proliferated. The number of illegal weapons has risen at a rapid rate – double-digit percentages – for several years, according to the National Observatory for Delinquency, a body created in 2003.

“In Marseille and the surrounding area almost all the score settling is carried out using weapons used in wars,” a police spokesman told Reuters after the Toulouse attacks, adding that Kalashnikovs were the weapon of choice: “If you don’t have a ‘Kalash’ you’re a bit of a loser.”

Paris attacks highlight France's gun control problems

The arsenal of weapons deployed by the eight attackers who terrorised Paris on Friday night underlined France’s gun control problems and raised the spectre of further attacks.

The country has extremely strict weapons laws, but Europe’s open borders and growing trade in illegal weapons means assault rifles are relatively easy to come by on the black market.

-------------=================

France is NOT on the list
French murder rate MUCH lower than US
you have no argument
..hey, like I said --if I could, I'd own a bunch of rifles and pistols.especially historic/old West working weapons
...but if you want to use statistics/etc for pro-gun, you can't use CA, Chi, France, etc
...but I would agree to limiting gun proliferation

You have no argument......French criminals have fully automatic military rifles as their weapons of choice....they just do not use them to commit murder....

That you continue to lie, and hide the fact that the murder rate is not determined by law abiding gun owners owning and carrying guns, but is actually determined by the willingness of a countries criminals to cross the line and commit murder, shows you are a typical, lying anti gunner. You are not interested in the truth, facts or reality, you want to ban guns and turn normal gun owners into criminals.

London pop.8,700,00 murders 113 --2015
STL 320,000 murders 188---2015
--27 TIMES the population, but less murders !!!!--
that would be 5000--not 113
difference is 5000 and 113 !!!
again--a difference that cannot be denied

2015 Was St. Louis' Deadliest Year in Two Decades
London murder rate up 14% over the past year
But even if France had a mass shooting as deadly as the Paris attacks every month, its annual rate of gun homicide death would be lower than that in the United States.
In other high-income countries, gun homicides are unusual events.
Comparing Gun Deaths by Country: The U.S. Is in a Different World
no --you can't argue these numbers--they are so much different
..this is like the other threads where I state numbers that are undeniably higher and people want to deny them
etc etc

Again.....you are trying to hide the truth by focusing on murder.....that isn't the truth. Britain banned and confiscated guns, promising their people that their gun crime rate and violent crime rate would go down......that did not happen. Their gun murder rate stayed the same, after spiking for 10 years....and their gun crime rate and violent crime rate is going up, not down.

Their criminals do not commit murder....that is not an indicator that their gun control laws have stopped them from committing murder....since they are engaging in more and more gun crime.

They have more guns....they are using more guns in crime.....they are not murdering each other or their victims....their gun control laws are not stopping their gun crime, and they are not stopping their gun murder rates....if the criminals want to murder people with their guns, they can murder people with the guns they have.....

I know you guys pretend to not understand the dynamic....that simply shows you are not interested in the truth...

Britain banned and confiscated guns on the premise that that would lower their gun crime rate and their violent crime rate.

Both went up. Their gun control laws did not lower their already low gun murder rate, it did not lower their gun crime rate, which keeps going up, and it did not lower their violent crime rate, which is skyrocketing....

We were told if more Americans own and actually carry guns, our gun crime rate would go up and blood would run in the streets.....our gun crime rate went down 75%. Our gun murder rate went down 49%. Our violent crime rate went down 72%.

Nothing you posted is relevant or based in facts or the truth.....

We went from 200 million guns in private hands in the 1990s and 4.7 million people carrying guns for self defense in 1997...to close to 400-600 million guns in private hands and over 16.3 million people carrying guns for self defense in 2017...guess what happened...
-- gun murder down 49%

--gun crime down 75%

--violent crime down 72%

Gun Homicide Rate Down 49% Since 1993 Peak; Public Unaware

Compared with 1993, the peak of U.S. gun homicides, the firearm homicide rate was 49% lower in 2010, and there were fewer deaths, even though the nation’s population grew. The victimization rate for other violent crimes with a firearm—assaults, robberies and sex crimes—was 75% lower in 2011 than in 1993. Violent non-fatal crime victimization overall (with or without a firearm) also is down markedly (72%) over two decades.

St. Louis has had democrat mayors since 1949......they have allowed their violent criminals to walk free over and over...

you can't argue it doesn't rank highe

I didn't....I state the fact that it isn't law abiding gun owners in St. louis driving their murder rate...as you try your best to hide that fact....

The gun murder rate in St. Louis is due to decades of democrat policies on criminals.....letting violent gun criminals out of jail over and over again.....you have seen this, you pretend not to have seen it...that makes you a troll...

Rise in Murders Has St. Louis Debating Why

Jennifer M. Joyce, the city’s circuit attorney, or prosecutor, an elected position, complains that in St. Louis, the illegal possession of a gun is too often “a crime without a consequence,” making it difficult to stop confrontation from turning lethal.

At the same time, deeper social roots of violence such as addiction and unemployment continue unchecked. And city officials also cite what they call a “Ferguson effect,” an increase in crime last year as police officers were diverted to control protests after a white officer shot and killed Michael Brown, an unarmed black teenager in the nearby suburb on Aug. 9.

-----------

Now, an overstretched department is forced to pick one neighborhood at a time to flood with officers. Last month, Chief Dotson even asked the state highway patrol if it could lend a dozen men to help watch downtown streets; the agency declined.
----
When the police discover a gun in a car with several passengers, including some with felony records, but no one admits to owning the gun, criminal charges are often impossible, Mr. Rosenfeld said.

In addition, according to a 2014 study by Mr. Rosenfeld and his colleagues, a majority of those who are convicted of illegally possessing a gun but not caught using it in a crime receive probation rather than jail time. Gun laws and enforcement are stiffer in many other cities.

Chief Dotson says judges are part of the gun violence problem in St. Louis city

The chief signed off on several Twitter messages on Monday, trying to alert the public, and perhaps pressure judges, to hand out harsher sentences for gun crimes.

In 2014, St. Louis circuit judges gave gun criminals probation 62 percent of the time.

The case that has the chief so upset right now involves Jamel Yates, 18, who was charged last week with allegedly killing a man he was selling a gun to in the 6000 block of Suburban.

At the time of last week's shooting, Yates was on probation on a gun charge related to a traffic stop that went badly back in February.

In April, Yates pleaded guilty to illegally carrying a concealed weapon and resisting arrest.

The judge gave him probation.

Now, less than six months later, Yates is charged with first degree murder, which the chief pointed out in that series of tweets issued by the department.
