Zone1 4th of July vs Juneteenth

The US has been celebrating the 4th of July for almost 250 years, we officially recognized Juneteenth last year.

Lets compare the two holidays

American Independence liberated 2.5 million Americans from British rule
Ending slavery liberated 4 million slaves

Those suffering under British rule suffered from paying taxes without being represented in the British Government
Those suffering under slavery suffered from servitude without compensation, beatings, rape and their children being taken from them

Liberating from British rule cost 30,0000 war deaths
Liberating slaves cost 600,000 war deaths
You make some statements. What point are you trying to make?

The point is that Conservatives have been mocking Juneteenth as an insignificant celebration

The OP shows that compared to the 4th of July, it is very significant

You should be thanking the Republican Party.....they were created to end slavery.

Those nasty bastard Black African parents who sold their children into slavery!

Independence day celebrates the creation of this country.

Juneteenth is an exercise in pandering and virtue signaling brought to you by the same shameless poseurs as these:

any questions?

Those nasty bastard Black African parents who sold their children into slavery!

Of the four million US slaves in 1860, almost every slave was born into slavery
Parents had no choice of whether their children would be slaves or not

.

Anyone can celebrate either one or both.
The constant fighting over nonsense is exactly what they want you to do ...

Mocking?

To you being mocked is anything other than gushing approval.

It's easy being a Democrat. You can be an asshole and at the same time act like you're not being a racist.

Deadhead asleep at the wheel government employees do not think so
For the boring, repetitious work they do they need a few breaks, but not twelve, plus 10 days paid sick days.

If that were the case……Why did the South create the Confederacy to ensure Slavery would exist forever?

4th of July celebrates the signing of the Declaration of Independence not Lexington and Concord
No matter what the south did or didn't do the fact is slavery was on it's way out the day Ft. Sumpter was fired on. The industrial revolution would have throttled slavery in its sleep. Along with that, there was a growing repugnancy of slavery.

When northerners bought up all those old plantations they replaced slavery with something far worse, sharecropping. That had all of the benefits of slavery and none of the responsibilities.

The south saw the erosion of slavery and panicked with the election of Lincoln.
To save their right to own slaves, they created the Confederacy which had a right to slavery in its Constitution

A bit more complicated than that, but basically yes. Slavery was on its way out even before the Civil War. Partly it was market forces. There just wasn't enough people that wanted to buy slaves. Whereas many in the south were heavily invested in the trade. Who would want to own a person and be responsible for feeding and caring for them. Hire someone and when they get sick just fire them. Can't fire a slave. Can't let them die and lose that investment.

Slavery was not on its way out in slave states. What the south was irate about was restrictions on slavery in new states
They didnt want their political power eroded

True. But nothing could change the erosion of slavery. Whether they wanted it or not.
