The new Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff has some rather interesting views of the art of war. He clearly believes there are 4 things most people believe that are far from true. They are:

1. The 'Short War' Myth. “"War takes on a life of its own," Milley said. "It zigs and zags. More often than not, war is much longer, much more expensive, much bloodier, much more horrific than anyone thought at the beginning.”

2. The 'Win From Afar' Myth. It always comes down to hand-to-hand.

3. The 'Force Generation' Myth. “This is the idea that it is possible to quickly generate forces in the event of need.”

4. The 'Armies Go to War' Myth. "Armies or navies or air forces don't go to war. Nations go to war," Milley said.

His bio says he has 2 Combat Infantryman Badges, an EIB, Special Forces and Ranger tabs, a Master Parachutist badge and a Special Operations Diver Badge.

#4 is wrong....Young men and women go to war...."Nations" don't get killed or maimed and otherwise have their lives destroyed.

Civilians that live in the war zones have their lives disrupted and destroyed. We've been very fortunate that the wars we've fight in recent memory were not fought here.
