Though the impression is nuclear war on a massive scale between the US and Soviets has faded, since the weapons still exist I'd argue so does the threat. Some very good movies and documentaries have been made addressing this subject, and one such list of them is below.

Some on the list I've never seen but intend to now. Ones I have and consider worthwhile include "Testament" and "Threads." Other notable ones were "Countdown to Looking Glass" which had my Mom walking in on me watching during the 'carrier attack scene' asking me if this was really happening
And "Special Bulletin."
Btw, links on-site to view them doesn't work. But if ya google them in quotes with the year, can find most on youtube. "bbc threads" (1984) and the like.
