1%er$ Are Strangling Our Economy

There's nothing accidental about the thousands of innocent human beings killed by the USAF, Dave.

And I've never confused you with someone willing to get close enough to the fight to bayonet anyone.

Even day cares.

Maybe babies?

And of course, you have a credible citation for that claim.

Oh, wait. No, you don't. You have stupid moonbat America-hating hysteria. That's pretty much it.

Given than you chickened out of the service, it's no wonder you don't recognize courage when you see it.

Now, predictably, you will claim your decision to run away from the commitment you made was courageous. Chickenshits always say that.

Well, you're the retard trying to paste the "babykiller" nonsense on me.

I see the same crap over and over again whenever macro economic and taxations issues are discussed .

Some of us want to think about this issue seriously to find a solution to the problem.

And some of you throw silly SLOGANs at the issue.

CLASS WARRIORS from both sides of this debate need to wake up and think about what their goofy ideological notions are actually doing to this nation.

There are two things that both need to be done

1. We need stop paying for EMPIRE that doesn't serve this nation

2. We need to impose a truly progressive and just tax system.

Yes, the wealthy will pay a higher rate, but the bourgeios will NOT be paying anywhere near the rates they're paying now.

The UBERWEATHY, if they truly paid that tp rate (of about 35%) would end up paying most of the taxes.

Right now, of course, they are NOT paying taxes at the same high rates that the bourgois actually ARE paying. If fact many of the multimillionaires in this nation pay ZERO taxes

Wake up affluent class, and realize that YOU ARE PAYING the taxes that the UBERWEATHY are NOT.

Its not the welfare class that's fucking you over, its the SUPERWEALTHY that you're paying taxes for.
What if it's too late, ed?

There's still a legitimate dispute between experts from the left and right regarding AGW, but there seems to be a consensus forming about the global economy.

We could well be in the opening rounds of a slow motion Great Depression 2.0.
Has the US dollar already crashed?
Is the Fed's QE-next merely treading water while the richest citizens get their assets to high ground?

If the Federal Reserve dumps another $11 trillion into the economy, our $14 trillion debt becomes $25 trillion. Those who aren't hard wired to consider a solution like state banks, i.e. North Dakota, are likely to follow the lead lemmings off the cliff.

You're right about Empire and progressive taxation, imho, but you have to recognize that for some who don't think the same way we do, it's more of "the same crap over again..."

Some of this could get real challenging.
Are private fortunes for a few compatible with the individual liberty of the majority?
Empire or Republic?

About the only thing I'm sure of is a "choice" between Republican OR Democrat is meaningless.

You're the house authority on chicken shit.

When's the last time you asked yourself why you picked the USAF?

Chicken-Shit.
And you know what the really funny part is?

YOU picked the Air Force, too...and you chickened out of it!:rofl::rofl:

I told you, little coward man: You lack the horsepower to compete. You'd best keep your ass in the basement eating Cheetos and fantasizing about about your little revolution, and leave real life to real men and women. You're simply not equipped to deal with it.

There you go, insisting I should give a damn what a coward like you thinks...sorry, wrong word. You don't think at all. You're nothing but a little bundle of hate, envy, and a sense of entitlement. Pure emotion. No facts, no logic. Just emotion.

What's your opinion of a specie that kills its young for material gain and glory?

"The choice facing the world is 'stark and dreadful and inescapable: shall we put an end to the human race; or shall mankind renounce war?'" (1955 B Russell and A. Einstein)

What is your opinion of those who enable the killing and expect to be thanked for their service?

[HISTORICAL FLASHBACK: In the fierce labor wars of the last century, industrial barons employed Pinkertons and other goons to bloody the heads of laborers or simply gun down those struggling for a share of economic and political power. It was brutal, but organized workers persevered and eventually gained a share of economic and political power. From their sweat and blood, America's middle class flowered.]

Today, the bands of nouveau corporate royalists (with coats of arms bearing such names as Coors, DeVos, Koch, Scaife, and Walton) are determined to take back those middle-class gains of yesteryear. They are working to achieve this through a coordinated, long-term campaign to (1) crush the ability of working people to unionize, (2) bust America's middle-class wage structure, (3) eliminate job security, and (4) emasculate government as a force capable of controlling corporate avarice and arrogance.

These latter-day royalists are employing a more sophisticated thuggery than brute force (though don't think they wouldn't resort to it). Instead, their goons are more likely to be in Gucci's than brogans, using dollars and computers rather than clubs and guns. They have been recruiting, financing, training, deploying, and coordinating thousands of political operatives to work through hundreds of front groups, law firms, think tanks, PACs, lobbying offices, media and PR consortiums, faux academic centers, astroturf campaigns, and--of course--compliant politicians.

Among the compliant is our covey of hyperactive governors, all carrying basically the same anti-worker, anti-democratic policy ideas. Their unified agenda wasn't produced by telepathy or freakish happenstance, but by AFC, ALEC, IFL, SPN,* and other obscure organizational acronyms unknown to 99 percent of Americans. But Daniels of Indiana, Walker of Wisconsin, Kasich of Ohio, Scott of Florida, and the rest of the covey have these organizations on speed dial. Behind the non-descript acronyms are aggressive and insidious right-wing wonk shops that have been set up and richly financed by the corporatists to prepare and hand-deliver pro-corporate programs to compliant governors and key legislators. Once delivered, the organizations work (usually clandestinely) to get the programs enacted.

From your link:

"Recoveries following a financial crisis tend to be slow going. By this point in the average postwar recovery, the U.S. gross domestic product had risen 9.4 per cent above its low point.

"But this time, U.S. GDP is up barely half that amount, according to Mr. Mallaby. He does not expect any sudden improvement.

“The larger truth is that the pressure to rein in government spending, coupled with continued pressure on household consumption from soft house prices, points to tough times ahead,” he wrote in a June 3 report. 'The latest grim jobs report may not be the last.'”

Yet the richest 1% of Americans are not experiencing "tough times".
They are mostly getting richer.
Shared sacrifice?

Corruption of the capitalism system in collusion with a corrupted government IS the problem.

Which is in turn, the fault of the people. Who keeps voting in these corrupt politicians, we do. Who keeps spending money at the stores of these corrupt businesses, we do.

True enough. Given that the cost of attaining high office is so enormous, it is virtually impossible for an honest man to get into a position of power.

I do NOT doubt that most people who begin the process of a political career hope to be HONEST.

But the nature of comnpromise means that sooner or later you have to MAKE A DEAL.

And the political cost of making those deals is ultimately what's killing this nation.

You want corruption to stop, it's exceedingly simple and at the same time difficult. Make people care about their beliefs and morals more than they do party politics and saving a few dollars, problem solved. Now, making that happen is a different story all together.

BINGO!

We need to change the way we find and elect our POLs.

The SCOTUS has, thanks to the ruling that money- free speech, made THAT pretty much impossible.

It always kills me to see these types of threads condemning the wealthy for "stealing" wealth from the middle class.

I agree. Painting with a BROAD BRUSH is a terrible mistake.

But note that even when people are careful to be very specific about their complaints, their complaints are ignored and what they actually write is seldom discussed.

Instead their detractors create STRAWMAN arguments telling them that they write something completely different than they really wrote.

If one complains, for example, about the stupid freee trade agreements we've made, then the detractor paints that specific complaint as though those posters were calling for ISLOATION.

Partisans are very good at turning people's words into something OTHER than what they really wrote.

They attack the posters rather than what the poster actually wrote.

They don't "steal" anything, the middle class is more than happy to "give" their hard earned money to these people.

Well yes and no. Generally speaking capitalism has nothing to do with THEFT.

But in the perverted system we currently have, (read the nature of the "bailouts) I don't what else to call it EXCEPT THEFT.

Now some of the right wingers are calling these SWINDLES socialism.

Some of the right wingers are calling it FASCISM.

What is it really?

It is theft of public funds by the collaboration of government and private corporations.

On top of that, with time and effort anyone can rise up and become wealthy, that's the american dream after all. Hard work and dedication to a good idea will make you successful.

Anyone?

Okay a bit off the subject but that's sort of silly.

No "anyone" cannot make it.

If that were true, everyone would make it.

That's rather like saying everyone can be ABOVE AVERAGE.

It's not called the American DREAM for nothing, ya know.

With luck and pluck and a whole lotta hard work and sacrifice one MIGHT make it.

"Goons in Gucci's

"So where does this sudden, multi-state offensive against the hard-won rights, protections, and democratic power of America's wage earners come from?

"From the top--from a relative handful of arrogantly rich, right-wing families and corporate chieftains who have long been dedicated to disarming labor, repealing the New Deal, and returning America to the glory days when robber barons ruled.

"These particular moneyed elites have not idly dreamed of going back to the future, they've been investing hundreds of millions of dollars during the past four decades to assemble a shadowy network of hired political thugs to get them there."

The "relative handful of arrogantly rich, right-wing families..." aren't confused about the existence of class war.

"AFC (American Federation for Children) is ramrodded by Betsy DeVos, whose right-wing bona fides are rock solid.

"Raised in the wealthy, ueber-conservative Prince family (her brother is Erik Prince, founder of Blackwater, the infamous private war corporation), she married Dick (son of Richard) and has been a major donor/fundraiser for the GOP, for religious-right political groups, and for a national web of school privatizers. Also, she and the larger DeVos klan are longtime co-conspirators in and co-funders of the Koch brothers' plutocratic political network.

"[Bonus tidbit: The DeVoses reportedly helped finance the Citizens United case that the Supreme Court used last year to unleash secret, unlimited corporate money on our elections.]

"Betsy is unabashed about using the family's vast fortune for, as she puts it, 'buying influence' in government.

"In 1997 she bluntly declared, 'We expect a return on our investment.'"

Unlike millions of productive Americans who are victims of their investments.

Clearly sans a government that is SERIOUS about supporting the PEOPLE AND STATE, we are hosed.

Frankly, GP, I think the destruction of NATIONS (by economic means!) is the long term goal.

In the LONG run, that actually MAY BE a good thing, just as the destruction of MONARCHICAL governance over the last 300 years or som was a good thing.

But in the short run, government is the only mechanism that can keep the playing field honest.'

EXCEPT of course, when the government is captured by CROOKS.

Which appears to be the case in terms of our government REGARDLESS of which party happens to be in power.

I'll just have to keep saying the same thing over and over and over again.

If this BAILOUT of crooked BANSTERS isn't tipping people off that BOTH PARTIES are corrupt, then NOTHING CAN DO IT.

We''d have to be stupid beyond words to think that one party is good and the other is bad, given the evidence before us.

Regarding the destruction of nation states being a good thing.

Chomsky has pointed out the extreme violence that was necessary to impose the nation state in Europe, contrasting that with the history of the US and Australia where the natives were simply exterminated as a means of national policy.

Taking the profit from war and debt by taxation would go a long way toward solving this problem.
Maybe private fortunes don't exist without war and debt?
Certainly elected Republicans AND Democrats are fully committed to both.

Elites in both parties have nothing to gain from prosecuting crooked banksters for the same reason they had no incentive to put Saddam and UBL on trial: the discovery process would have revealed their complicity in crimes against humanity.

Finally, we should never underestimate the self-destructive power of greed.
The rich dodged the bullet in '08 when they found Obama.
Hopefully, he's One and Done.

When this economy SCREAMS loudly enough to focus the attention of Americans in the same way 911 did, Hope and Change becomes possible.

But it's a toss-up which side they'll choose.
