Five Guys sucks.

That being said... what kind of dipshit tips at Five Guys? That cost him an extra $2.19... AND HE TIPPED ON THE TAX!

These days, if we're going out to eat, we hit the mom and pop places. If I'm going to spend that money, I'd rather it stay out of the hands of the chains.

A burger, fries and a drink for $24 is ridiculous.

Yup. It was over $40 that last time we went - two of us. Wife gets a small burger wrapped in lettuce and we split a small fry order.

Haven't been back since.

Just checked, I can get the same order at a Five Guys near me for $22.13 including tax, no fucking tip. I'm curious as to where the restaurant in question is... it's cheaper than here... without the tip he would have paid $21.91...

Still not paying $22 for one meal at a fucking Five Guys...

It makes you wonder....

Back in 1974 I was paying $1.56 including tax for a BLT/chips/water at a local Mom & Pop. I suspect back then I left a .50 cent tip so figure $2.06 total.

That's $12.56 in FJB bucks today.

A few things to consider;
1) Looks like this was in NYC, where things cost more than other parts of the country.
2) With minimum wage at $15 +/- in many places, product prices need to cover the increased cost to the business.
3) Some fast food stores are a franchise, so less going to the "big corp" than usual.

Minimum wage is still $7.50 an hour here. Obviously it needs to be lower, cuz that's the only reason stuff goes up according to the right wing Jeenyuses here. I would suggest looking up the wholesale prices of meat and poultry before and after Saint Reagan allowed the meat packers to import wetbacks to bust the unions, but that might be too traumatic since it explodes their bullshit claims and makes Sainted Ronnie look like a liar.

See, when you let 3 or 4 companies control an entire industry, they royally screw everybody they can, from meat to bread, to gas to banking. They also collude to hold wages down and do under the table deals to not steal each other's skilled employees, something Silly Con Valley does all the time..

The secret is order kids meals at most places. I have a small appetite and it works fine for me. I just pretend I am 10 years old. :) Just kidding! Some places don't care if you are not a kid. Some do.

Well I don't live in NYC so sorrow to hear that. Surprised also the state and city are run by DemocRATs for decades now and you'd think they'd do better for "the people" they always claim to be looking out for.

Out here on the Left (West) Coast, PNW, it's up to $15+/hour and consumer price jumps in last few years reflect that.

However, I was not claiming that wages at the Five Guy's was ONLY cause for expensive burgers. Wages do how ever carry over and those wholesale(and retail) prices of meat and poultry would reflect wage increases as part of the cause. Wage costs all along a supply change bump it up here and there. BUT there are other costs that add on. Increases in fuel and transportation costs such as new taxes added on to price per gallon. And impacts of supply and demand. A couple years ago feed prices rose and beef prices fell so ranchers had to reduce their herds, resulting in lower retail prices for a while. However demand didn't drop that much and the smaller herds to market make a shorter supply and higher prices now. Not quite double what we saw a couple years ago, but close.

As for that second paragraph, what you describe is more frequently seen in socialism/communism where government colludes with a few, at most, industries in a field and then with no competition you find yourself waiting in a line around the block to get some toilet paper that just came to the store, hopefully before it's all gone.

But the real problem here is that people like you are so ignorant on basic economics and so indoctrinated with narrow views, that it would take a couple of semesters worth of classes to enlighten. A few paragraphs on a message board likely won't. But others might see how misguided and misinformed you are and gain understanding of the roots of your position.

More Conservatives demanding Free Stuff from taxpayers

If you can’t afford a 5 Guys burger….take it up with your Boss
Tell him you don’t get paid enough
Sorry Charlie. It's you pseudo-liberals, leftists that want guv'mint(taxpayers) to provide you with free stuff.

His/your boss is likely paying best he/she can based on what it will cost to replace you. Think about it.
Especially if you had ever owned a business and have experience with profit and loss accounting.

So you're OK with inflation? lol

Sometimes it becomes clear to me why Benjamin Franklin added "if you can keep it" to his famous quote about our republic.
