The same thing happened after the end of the Second World War. Just dividing Berlin into two halves and telling the Eastern citizens "you are under Russian rule now" wasn't too enticing an offer to keep the citizens loyal so they had to keep them in literally with a wall the silly Commies. Russians can't seem to invent an.acceptable variety of goods desired by.the rest of the world anymore so they go to war and just divide any of the land up that might be available to them.when it ends. I dont know why so many nations in the world want to remain decades behind everyone else (Canada included tbh) especially when they had talent and a reasonably effective technical education system (especially post WWII). Always behind the Americans though due to lack of creative freedom.

The big difference is that Trump knows how it all began and whether Biden understood (more likely was complacent with his MIC cronies) the final act is clear. Putin will achieve his goals and mousey Zoolinsky with EU bunglers will just have to sit in the corner and agree. They'll weep and moan for a about year and then they'll have to eat crow and repair NordStream. We all blame the US (as we should!) but Trump is right: it isn’t his war. He wasn’t calling the shots when it went down. We often forget that. He’ll fix it even if he has to break some arms and legs to do it.
The US and EU made him do it and the fool hasn't realised he's just a dupe. He still thinks he's someone to be reckoned with but Ukraine has never been a bargaining chip for anyone's side. So, you’re right. Trump and Putin will just sit him at the kid’s table off to the side and tell him to keep his mouth shut. When it’s over with they’ll claim it was a great deal that all three of them brokered ….. just to let Zoolinsky save face. He’ll move to Florida or develop cancer and whither away. He’s already a footnote of history and in two year’s time people will be saying, “What was his name again?”
