Your thoughts on calling McDonalds Corporate and reporting a manager?

So.... I do not make a habit out of this kind of thing. In fact it's the first time I ever called a corporate complaint line for any reason.

The story: I am doing a fundraiser for a Scout Troop, and needed some change. Went to local McDonalds for lunch. The manager was running the only register (most everyone uses the kiosks these days. After informing him that I was going to order lunch, I asked nicely if I could get four $5's in exchange for my one $20. Immediate reaction: "we don't normally do that". I said, well, can you make an exception this particular time. No but he said he could change my $20 on the order (which would have given me about $9 change, NOT ENOUGH.) I ordered. I take out my credit card to pay, figuring then, he can give me the four $5's for my $20. He still refused. I said, so you're not going to help me? Answer, no I'm not. I called him an asshole and left. Went over to Chik-Fil-A, asked them to change the $20 for the $5's. They did! I then called McDonalds corporate later that day and reported the manager for poor service. Corporate said he will be reprimanded.

GOOD! If there's one thing I've learned about business, is that you take care of your customers and you do it with a decent attitude.
Should have gone to Chick-Fil-A in the first place, but I imagine you've already had that talk with yourself.

If he does get reprimanded, I'm guessing he'll say that he was having a hard time keeping small bills for change and that he politely explained that and you called him an asshole. I have to agree with Thunk above about just not going there. Life's to short to spend time on the phone talking someone with an Indian accent claiming to be a McDonald's executive.

I do t know about today but 30 years ago the McDonalds I worked at had a policy where we would not make change for anything other than a transaction. I don’t know if that was a local policy or corporate, but it was the policy in 1994.

Well, actually, if you want that done, you should go to your bank. I've run register and sometimes they can't afford to change out large bills for several small ones, especially at certain times of the day. It might be as simple as your catching McDonalds at a bad time and ChicFilA at a good time. I would not have reported anyone. It is their business and they are not your bank.

Refusing them your business is the best way to hurt them!
Amen to this. I was actually at one of my local McDonald's tonight and my mom's Big Mac was almost six dollars with the tax included. If bad service doesn't make them take a nosedive, their prices will be what will do them in.

God bless you and my mom always!!!

LOL....I don't think this thread is going the way the OP intended. :laughing0301:
Actually, I am pleased that 4 people gave me a thumbs up on the original post and only 1, a thumbs down. There's always a few loudmouths, but common sense seems to have prevailed here. I'll bet you the next time someone asks that manager for change, he will have a better attitude about it.

OK, the bet is on. Wait a few months, go back in there, and ask the same manager for the same cashout then get back to me.
Nope I'm done with that store and in fact, may be done with McDonalds for good. I'll take my business to Chik Fil A and other places that have better food.

Let us know when you go in there asking for the cashier to break large bills for you into many small ones for some outside event having nothing to do with their business.

Oh for God's sake don't be so dramatic. I asked for 4 Five Dollar bills as a one time thing to help me with a fundraiser. If it was such a terrible request then why did Chik Fil A help me, immediately? Perhaps because better people work there?

did you stop to consider he may not have a lot of them and if youve ever stood behind a register running out of certain denominations can cause problems all day long,,

maybe chick fil a had an extra amount of them

I would just get over it and move along,,

as for being dramatic,, thats you coming on an anonymous forum whining like a child,,

I'm going to speak slowly.

The JERK manager at McDonalds didn't even bother checking the drawer. He didn't give me a polite answer. He had no people skills, and he acted like an ass. He cost himself a sale, he cost his company future sales, and he got himself reported.

I win.

I already told you, it depends on the drawer. $5 bills are heavy in demand as most people pay with a $20 then need change. The Chick Fil A might have had a drawer full of small bills soon due to be cashed out by the manager whereas the McDonalds you might have caught at a time when the drawer was fresh and rather short on spare bills. Stores generally try not to have too much money in a drawer in case they get robbed. It is as simple as that.

Chik-Fil-A manager: good people skills. Future business.

McDonalds manager: lousy people skills. No future business.

It's as simple as that.
