According to the EIA the electrical capacity of the US has increased every year. See the charts here: EIA - Electricity Generating Capacity

But that only means there will be electricity available. Business not wishing to waste a crisis will use the shutting of their environmentally unfriendly coal stations as a reason to gouge the consume out of more money. Look for some sort of surcharge to account for the shutting of coal stations. The electricity will be there but the price will be where the electric industry feels it should be.

Is your four cycle generator engine an efficient way to produce electricity? Does it pump pollution into the air?

I have one too, but only because we live in a Hurricane zone. I would never run the SOB unless the grid went down, and then only to power a refrigerator and a couple of lights.

If you were paying attention I posted the graphs that show our capacity increasing. Hell just the lost of our industrial base has left more for the residential user. I don't think that the power outages will be Obama's fault and that is what I posted. The higher prices that people pay we can first thank him, cause that was what he promised, and people who will start producing electricity and forcing the electricity company to buy it, who really don't like single payer and don't mind screwing those with no other choice.

That is true in my area. Of course, there is always an excuse to raise prices. Our city blames the loss of industry for higher rates because the industries do not support the overhead and maintenance costs a smuch since there are fewer of them. They wanted to join in with other cities to build a power plant to offset the higher costs, but with coal phasing out and oil prices going up, the upfront cost would be too expensive--it would take a lifetime just to realize any savings.
