Raising taxes never solves deficit problems. Ask people in MI. Or in NJ. Or in CA. In all three states tax increases were sold as a way to erase the deficit. In every case it gave cover to increase spending and they ended up with a worse problem.

As for the VAT, it sucks. Article in the WSJ two days ago describes Britain's VAT. It is the most bloated, bureaucratic piece of idiocy. Dog food sold for racing dogs is not taxed but food sold for pets is. Bras up to 34b are not taxed, but ones bigger are. The inefficiencies engendered by this alone negate any benefit it might have had.
But i thought health care reform was going to save money? Where is all that money it was supposed to save?

The current administration cannot be trusted with our money. They shouldn't get one more thin dime of it.

It's obvious that the plan all along has been to create government expansion and socialist redistribution by doing the spending first so as to necessitate higher taxes in order to deal with crushing national debt. It's pure deceit and manipulation... and we should refuse to cooperate with it.

Let them REPEAL all the reckless legislation they've engaged in so far. Let them reduce spending. And only when Congress has proved itself capable of responsibly managing our money, should we allow them any more.

The debt does need to be addressed. But Rabbi's right... if we give this bunch more, they'll just spend more. It's never enough with them.

I have listed before a good starting point of federal government agencies and departments that should immediately be cut... the elimination of those expenses coupled with he tax revenue we already have would reduce the deficit,,, start taxing the ~50% that do not currently pay any federal income tax... that should increase revenues to start paying down the debt... pass legislation that requires an 80% majority vote in both houses (in combination with specifically citing where in the constitution that the spending is empowered to the government) of congress to pass any governmental spending that puts the budget in the red

Obama said this: "People who make capital gains on their investments pay no medicare tax"

Who in the heck actually believed that you can add 30 million un-insured to the insured list and drive down the deficit---

Who in the heck actually believed that you can cut 500 BILLION out of Medicare to pay for the above--while millions of Baby-boomers--(the largest generation in U.S history) is now entering the system, and will continue to do so for the next 15 years.
