I went to the ACLU website to get their side of the story and it seems that porn was not mentioned at all, they found that many school systems had blocked LGBT political content from their networks but not even that would have been enough to get their attention, it seems that schools were blocking the sites that were pro LGBT in most cases and and anti LGBT on others. Porn is blocked from every school network in the country and you have the option to block it from your home network, no one wants to make kids look at porn but some schools go a lot further and block things that make no sense such as political sites that might teach them to think for themselves.

I agree Jake....which if you don't mind, I'd like to talk about those two words for a second....Critical Thinking....

The thing about critical thinking is that you have to use it across the board. Yes, there are always some biases, but you have to try to work through that.... for instance, I am pro-labor....I believe that a well paid workforce is obviously good for those individuals, but is also good for the economy(more people with disposable income), good for the country(less demand on government resources) and in the long run, is good for business. Therefore, I have no problem with organized labor that helps to give otherwise relatively powerless employees a better position to bargain from. Obviously, I am biased on the subject.

That doesn't mean that I don't see that unions CAN be oppressive to businesses....I grew up in the 70's and saw how organized labor screwed businesses during the OPEC oil embargo...they wouldn't back down and it hurt industry....bad. I've also seen in other situations too, but mostly in isolated incidents...nothing like it was back then though.

I very much believe that both business and labor need to be flexible and honest with one another. If a company is truly struggling? Open up the books and show them to labor in an honest manner. Don't lie and plead poverty when things are fine just to be greedy. Likewise, when a company is truly struggling...labor has an obligation to make sacrifices to help that company out until things pick up again.

THAT'S what "critical thinking" is. To be able to analyze both sides of an issue with a critical eye...even if you are biased.

Unfortunately, mostly due to right wing media, Critical thinking has become a buzzword for linear thinking....IE....

government makes mistakes sometimes.....so therefore, government sucks!

Unions sometimes aren't willing to make concessions in tough times, and they sometime protect bad workers.....so therefore, Unions Suck!

There are some people who leech off of government who could work, but are just too lazy....so therefore....Welfare is for lazy leeches!

Sorry for ranting on the subject, but I think the definition of "critical thinking" is one of my biggest pet peeves over the past decade. It's not Critical thinking when you only use it on the "other" guys.

Don't know much about Jefferson, do you? There were three things he was most proud of in his life....laying the framework for the DOI, Founding the University of Virginia, and accomplishing the concept of SEPARATION of church and state in Virginia....which was adopted into our US Constitution.

I don't believe that greed is "good". I don't believe that our corporate structure is made up of good, honest people who are just trying to earn a living....I believe that they are, by and large people that would run over a person in a wheelchair if it would make them richer, let alone paying their labor a wage that is capable of raising a family in this day and age.

They are the epitome of greed and avarice....you guys can sit there and tell me how much they give to charity(conveniently tax deductable, of course) and tell me how good of Christians they are....but if they are Multi-billionaires, the top of their employee food chain are millionaires and multi-millionaires, and their Mainstream employees can't make it without government assistance.....they aren't doing right by those people or by God's standards.

I believe that society is measured by how it treats it's weakest members. I believe that all people sin, and those sins are between the individual and God. I believe that when those sins don't hurt society at large....they should remain between the sinner and God. I believe that God loves us all....and it's OUR insecurities, our limited intellect and knowledge, and the fact that we can't look into other people's hearts(like God can) that makes us prone to judging one another, hating one another, and demonizing one another.

Theocracies, by and large, come to existence based on a strong bond between politics and religion....so yeah, a religious person who values their religion so much that they can't help but couple it with their political view is extremely likely to start a theocracy.
