Destroying the rich? What world are you living in? the gap between the rich and middle class is getting bigger. Asking the rich to pay for their ride is not drstroying them.

the income gap is a red herring. It is not a zero-sum game.

You need to understand that the pre-Reaganomics tax level didn't "destroy" the rich.

you need to understand how to read an income statement

instead of letting someone else do the thinking for you, you can actually read SEC filings yourself, if you did this you would see that Exxon Mobil has paid over $100 billion in taxes over the last four years on pre-tax profits of $260 billion, an effective rate over 40 percent

You're asking an individual to do something so significant it would make their melon explode.

numbers are the only way to measure the difference.

At the end of the day, most right-wing loons would have loved to live in Russia pre 1917....serfdom is their ideal society....

Is this all about whether the upper bracket should be 34% or 39%? Because if it is -- the leftists don't even realize what they are asking for..

It ain't gonna make a damn bit a diff to the "evil" rich like Warren Buffet who pay 17.7% marginal rate because they take capital gains instead of salaries.. Same for hedge fund mgrs, silver spoon trust fund babies and all the other high value leftist targets..

Instead -- it's gonna be felt mostly by Venus/Serena Williams, Jay Leno, Oprah and the NY Mets.

They can't SHOOT STRAIGHT in this class war -- because they are functionally economically illiterate..

They're already paying for their ride.... and most of yours as well.

Nobody wants to destroy the rich...

... they simply want them to pay their fair share of taxes...

... especially since they are the ones...

... who own the companies that outsource American jobs...

... that cause the drop in tax revenue...

... from those jobs once they are outsourced...

... let the ones who are responsible make up the difference.

It's the 'fair share' bit that's the point. They're already paying more than their 'fair share'... and yet you want more.

No one says otherwise.

And having ‘the rich’ pay taxes isn’t going to ‘destroy’ them.

wow. Perfect and kinda mean. I mean shutting down this dumb ass thread like that. Good for you. :clap2:

Psssst, hey idiot boy.... 'the rich' are already paying taxes... and you're clapping a lie. How very liberal of you.:lol:

You needn't feel badly because you are not the only American who is fooled by those reports of tax payments by oil companies which are reimbursed in the form of subsidies. Go back and read the SEC figures, then research the subsidies and you'll see how much Exxon/Mobil paid and didn't pay. In the simplest terms, you could show me figures on how much tax you paid last year but if you don't show me how much you received in refunds I'll be successfully deceived. So think of a subsidy as a refund their accountants don't mention.

As I said, don't feel badly. That's why Exxon/Mobil's tax lawyers and accountants are paid millions of dollars. They are very good at pulling the wool over the eyes of even smart people like you. If you wish to learn more about how they do it in simple language, go to Senator Bernie Sanders' website. He has all the facts and figures and I don't believe he would publish lies or irresponsible reports.

Exxon Mobil's accounting methods mask its relatively low effective tax rate. According to CNN Money the $3.1 billion in taxes the company claims to have paid since January 2011 includes both federal and state gasoline taxes—that are really paid by drivers—as well as employee payroll taxes.

Think Progress’s Pat Garofalo rightly observes that “Exxon is counting as part of its tax burden [taxes] that it simply does not pay,” making the exorbitant subsidies the company receives even more unnecessary.

These strategic maneuverings have not been lost on congressional Democrats. Rep. Tim Bishop (D-NY) introduced a bill to repeal at least one of these tax loopholes for large oil companies including Exxon. The legislation would result in $12 billion in revenue over 10 years by removing the Section 199 domestic manufacturing tax deduction.

House Republicans successfully blocked Democratic attempts to force a vote erasing this unnecessary oil subsidy on May 5 by passing a motion, 241-171, on two drilling bills.

Maybe you don't realize....

......that because of outsourcing from other countries to the US, we have more higher paying jobs in this country....

....And those jobs outsourced to us are more than double the amount of jobs outsourced from us......

......Or that the top 10% already pay the vast majority of all taxes, despite the fact they provide us with the products we take for granted.....

...that taxation redistributes wealth and can never create it....

....that the drop in tax revenue is due to a complicated tax code made complicated by so many taxes...

...and that taxing someone a higher percentage of their income because they are more successful isn't fair at all.

The problem is the tax laws that allow inequality to various groups of people. Everybody should pay the same monetary amount of taxes, rich or poor.

I have no problems with the rich paying more taxes....

I am a libertarian, not a conservative, and your reply is both a strawman and a guilt by association fallacy. Try again.

The "hand" that feeds the poor, as well as the rich, in America consists of the bountiful natural and human resources of this Nation. Those who become rich in America by exploiting those resources owe a debt to the Nation for their success.

That debt occurs in the form of taxation, which is never ruinous. It simply makes the rich a bit less rich. They still live much better than the rest of us. So just who is it you are carrying a torch for?
Oh horseshit. Class envy and oppression does not define every economic action.

By this, your success is due to you because you fucked over someone else and are therefore inherently evil to boot. Just not AS evil as someone who is more successful.

Oh and please try that "debt isn't ruinous" line when you've maxed out your cards and try to get a mortgage or car loan, on the bank.
Why is it greed for a man to want to keep the fruit of his labor, but not greed when someone uses the power of government to deprive another man of his hard-earned property?
You've read what I wrote there with a jaundiced eye.

What I said, quite simply, is the rich are rich because the resources of this Nation enabled their success -- not because they are endowed with magical powers. And for that reason it is only fair that they return an appropriate share of what they've managed to acquire to the source of their good fortune. And an appropriate share will by no means be ruinous to them. Because for the uber-rich, even if their tax rate is 91% of their income they would still have more and be living better than 98% of the population.

There is nothing complicated or devious about that. It simply proposes a payment of taxes proportionate to that paid by less financially successful citizens.

And if the rich don't think paying a tax on their earnings is justified they have a choice of not earning anything or moving to a nation where the tax rates are lower and trying to do as well there.
