july 1 2025 President Donald Trump warned American criminals they may be the next inhabitants of the 'Alligator Alcatraz' facility and deported out of the country.

He issued the threat during a tour of a migrant detention center in the Everglades surrounded by alligators, musing that home-born 'bad people' may be his next targets to get them 'the hell out' of the U.S.

The $450 million-per-year detention facility, which will be able to hold up to 3,000 undocumented immigrants, was built in just seven days.

There are only tents and trailers - no brick-or-mortar buildings. It was constructed on land belonging to Miami-Dade County and seized by state officials over local leaders' objections.

It sits next to an 11,000 foot airstrip. DeSantis said the runway there can be used to quickly fly undocumented immigrants to third countries if deportation is deemed appropriate.

I read where detainees will be there for only a short time till they are airlifted out. Something to do with a 30-day review period.

The figure quoted in the OP seems quite excessive.

Knowing something about prison costs per convict myself I'd say the high end would be $2800 for 30 days if even that when it's up and running good.

I have a feeling someone rolled the total cost of the entire operation into that bogus figure.

BTW.....60K a year is the national average for keeping a felon locked up in prison.

However, jailbirds county/regional lock-ups are a bit better than half that at 34K a year so I'd say that would be closer to the mark for a mere detention facility.

I'm not sure where the $450 million per year estimate came from. It sounds way over the top like 10 times over. I think there's more to come.
