The days of public executions are long past. After the death sentence is given the only thing the public needs is a short announcement (on 'page 2') that the sentence was carried out.
Here is one done Friday 10/11/2025
Jones, who was sentenced to death for the 1990 double murder and armed robbery of Matilda and Jacob Nestor, was pronounced dead by lethal injection at 6:13 p.m. at Florida State Prison near Starke, according to the office of Gov. Ron DeSantis.
The condemned man spent his final hours meeting with a spiritual advisor and remained compliant with prison staff. His final meal request was a Southern classic: fried chicken, collard greens, and sweet tea.
When asked if he had a final statement, Jones offered a succinct and chilling reply: "No, sir," according to DeSantis spokesperson Alex Lanfranconi. The lethal injection itself was reported to have occurred without any complications.
A Fatal Encounter
Jones's crimes date back to December 1990, shortly after he began working at the Miami-Dade business owned by the Nestors. In a brutal robbery attempt, he stabbed Matilda Nestor in the neck and Jacob Nestor in the chest.
Despite his mortal wounds, Jacob Nestor managed a final act of defense, staggering into an office to grab a .22-caliber pistol and firing five shots, one of which struck Jones in the forehead. Authorities later found Jones wounded, carrying the couple’s money and personal belongings. A jury convicted him of two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of armed robbery in 1993.
