I don't think our Constitution supports communism, certainly not at the federal level. That doesn't mean it can't happen, but if people are ready to dump the Constitution, I'm not sure "ban" on communism will hold up.

If you're talking about banning the discussion or promotion of communism - gawd no. I'll take the freedom of speech and risks it represents over such heavy handed government.

Germany has an actual ban on Communism. Not a direct ban but an actual ban. Everything has to take place within the framework of the constitution. That means Communist parties will be banned when they become powerful. Already happened:

I would only add how impractical it would be to "ban communism."

What would that mean? No more reading Marx in the library, or a ban on more than three people discussing Marx? What if someone advocated all the tenets of communism, but called it "Share and Share Alike Democracy" or some such?

Let the worst ideas be widely discussed, so we see how bad they are.
