Originally I was in favor of having another Civil War because it's obvious to me that many people in the democratic party want us dead, but that was until I was talking to one of my neighbors that we could just restore peace by voting the democrats out of office and restoring peace that way by destroying their party. It's a very interesting thought, but would it work? I'm currently on the fence about this one.

I can trace my online activism all the way back to at least the early nineties. Many of my posts from back then are still searchable in the "wayback machine."

I wouldn't risk losing much money if I were to pay $100 per thread to anyone who can find examples of anyone "talking to each other" rather than talking AT each other.

That's not been my experience on any online debates. Though I have to admit my threads have almost always been primarily on the abortion issue.

Perhaps other issues were more civil, I don't know. I'm skimming the archives of my ACLU threads now and other than a lot of newbie mistakes that I can see I was making, the temperature is about what I see today on USMB, X, BluesCry, etc.

Are you freaking nuts? I wouldn't be in favor of the first one but apparently Lincoln was duped into thinking that the war would barely last a summer and casualties would be light. Four years later anywhere from 750,000 to a million Americans were dead and they were only using black powder. I can't imagine what the casualties would be today with modern weapons. Only a freak raised by watching cartoons would even suggest such a thing.

I don't know if I would call it a civil war in a classic sense. Certainly extensive civil unrest more so than in the 60s with Vietnam.
