Cable company ordered to pay $7 billion to family of Texas woman murdered by repairman
Charter Communications will appeal the verdict, saying the "crime was not foreseeable." The case hinged on how well the company vetted its employee.

This is more common than you think it is.
Checking backgrounds and legal status is always stated as a part of the application process, but career criminals know thats a lie. Background/criminal/legal checks are expensive and the terms are only used as a "fear factor" to make the criminal element go somewhere else to apply for a job. But career criminals know companies refuse to pay for these services, and hire people willy nilly.
These career criminals pick these kinds of jobs so they have easy access to your home.......and you.
ALWAYS have someone else with you when a workman shows up! If you don't have someone to be with you, keep mace on you at all times, or something you can put in your pocket for protection, that you can easily get to. And as an added precaution, have hidden cameras in your house. And not that felonious garbage from places like Ring. You need a private hidden camera set up connected to a computer that does NOT have wifi or an outside line.
And these companies don't care........look at the money they charge for a freeking wire coming into your house!! It's a heinously corrupt racket. And NOBODY needs separate lines for cable, internet, and phone anymore! All you need is internet! You can get phone and watch movies and tv online......most of the time for free. They rake in all these billions of dollars a year on this scam.
It's nothing to them to pay off these people and sweep this stuff under the rug so the public doesn't hear about it. They have insurances to cover this stuff, and they have corrupt lawyers to get them cut rate deals on payouts, so it can all be swept under the rug and covered up.
