SPARTANBURG, S.C. (WSPA) — Bond was denied during an emotional hearing for the man officials said is responsible for the deaths of two children in Spartanburg.

According to South Carolina Highway Patrol, Eri Perez was driving on Asheville Highway on Sunday afternoon when the car ran off the road, hitting two children who were riding their bikes.

The car hit nine-year-old Mikhail-Lee Smith and 12-year-old Dereon James Robinson.

The Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office said the boys were taken to Spartanburg Medical Center, but both died from their injuries around an hour later.

During the hearing, Spartanburg County solicitor, Barry Barnette, said when state troopers arrived at the crash, they could easily tell Perez was heavily intoxicated.

ā€œThey smelled a strong alcoholic beverage coming from him. His speech was so slurred he couldn’t convey any thoughts or answer questions,ā€ he said.

Barnette added that Perez had bloodshot eyes, could not stand on his own, and was unable to complete a field sobriety test.

Perez later admitted to troopers that he’d been drinking heavily during the weekend.

Deputies said there was a passenger in Perez’s car at the time of the crash, but he fled the scene before investigators arrived. He has not yet been located by authorities.

Perez has been charged with two felony counts of DUI resulting in death, driving with no license, and violating open container laws.

The two felony charges carry 25-year sentences each, according to the solicitor.

Dereon Robinson’s mother, Megan Wilson, and his brother, were walking alongside the boys when the crash happened.

At least SC won’t be trying to protect him from the ā€œevilā€ ICE.

America continues to pay a heavy price for the dem fueled invasion of illegal aliens.

I used AI to find the immigration status of the guy who killed those two kids:

"In the news story from WSPA, the suspect is identified as Eri Perez (full name reported elsewhere as Eri Otoniel Roblero-Perez or similar variations).

His immigration status is described as follows:
  • He is not a U.S. citizen.
  • Spartanburg County solicitor Barry Barnette stated that Perez is a "danger to the community and a flight risk, as he is not a U.S. citizen."
  • The judge confirmed that an ICE detainer has been filed (or will be filed) for him.
No specific details are provided in the article about his exact visa status, whether he entered legally, or his country of origin. Other reporting notes that authorities reached out to ICE for more information on his legal status but had not received a response at the time of publication.

This status was cited as a key reason for denying bond during his hearing. Perez faces two felony counts of DUI resulting in death (among other charges) in connection with the crash that killed two children."

Whomever it was who sold the alcohol beverages to him should also be charged, and their company should lose their license. I don't know what the SC laws are on the sale of alcohol and tobacco products are, but Wisconsin requires a US state or federal issued ID to purchase them. Working for an establishment that sells those, I have seen illegals try to use all kinds of hinky ID cards to attempt a purchase: Foreign voter ID cards, consular ID cards, and other forms which are not legally-acceptable in my state.

A second point is this: The state of South Carolina does not issue driver's licenses to illegals without proof of lawful presence in the United States. So why was he even driving?
