This authors of the article made the mistake of including the actual case histories of 576-gun deaths which occurred over a week in America, which included murders, suicides, law enforcement, and accidents. The conclusions of the two authors didn't match the data they presented. Curiously, I am unable to find that article in the archives of that news magazine. Conclusions from a study can be an opinion, sure. But the data collected is very transparent. Whatever you read probably got the number of gun deaths down correctly, you probably just didnt like the author’s explanations for the cause. All I did was list out the number of murders reported. Those are solid numbers. Why they go up or down can be a real argument, but not the numbers.
