Woke Connecticut School District Removes Sacred Veterans Day from Holiday Calendar

Go cry somewhere else fuckup.

The motion’s supporters, Joshua Esses, Michael Hyman, Gabriela Koc, Versha Munshi-South, and Antonia Better-Wirz, advocated for a shorter school year, arguing that a 181-day calendar extending into mid-June was too long.

Esses suggested offsetting the number of school days by eliminating not only Columbus and Veterans Day but also the Muslim holiday Eid al-Fitr, the end of Ramadan, and the second day of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. However, the latter proposition found no favor among the board members, leaving the focus on Columbus and Veterans Day.
So there is no MLK day there.

Let's get rid of all of them.
Right? NY day, MLK, Pres. day, Good Friday, Memorial day, Juneteenth, Independence day, Labor day, Indigenous Peoples day, Veterans day, Thanksgiving and day after, Christmas day. That is THIRTEEN days per year times $15/hr (much lower than reality) is $1560/year per state and federal employee for doing NOTHING. The numbers are similar in the private sector. This giveaway times the millions of employees in the country is astronomical an unsustainable. Greed has killed the golden goose. If an employee isn't doing something productive, there should be no pay.

Yup why not?

The proper way to deal with national holidays in school is to make them "teaching moments." Spend some time beforehand explaining why they are holidays, and if there are traditional ways of celebrating them, encouraging those activities.

If an American public school teacher cannot explain why Columbus Day is celebrated (or Thanksgiving, for that matter), then s/he should not be teaching in a public school. Regardless, the Administration can easily provide teaching materials that are appropriate for every grade level.

Otherwise national holidays are a waste of valuable school time.

My employer (owned by a British company) tried to do this about 15 years ago. It lasted about 24 hours before the Union and the many Veterans in the company blew a gasket and they reversed the decision.
